Doctor-turned-businessman Dr Tohme says he is a qualified orthopaedic surgeon from Saudi Arabia. He met Jackson when the singer was defaulting on a £10million loan. They were introduced by Jermaine. Dr Tohme promised that he could refinance Jackson’s spiralling £100million debt and quickly became his manager and confidant.
Dr Tohme brokered a deal between Jackson and Colony Capital, a private-equity firm run by billionaire Tom Barrack Jr. Philip Anschutz, owner of AEG Live, the US entertainment giant which went on to handle the final tour, then received a call from Mr Barrack, his friend. Randy Phillips, AEG chief executive, said: “I got a call from Dr Tohme, who said Michael was in bad financial straits.” Last December, Mr Phillips presented Dr Tohme with his vision. “Phase one would be 10 shows at the O2,” he said.
But as the pressure of what had grown to 50 shows mounted, it would appear that Dr Tohme - the very man who had “saved” him from financial ruin - was no longer welcome in Jackson’s life.

Simpson Talk Is New L.A. Industry
Newsday (Melville, NY) - Friday, July 1, 1994

1/2Los Angeles
I SOLD MR. O.J. a 15-inch knife, the knife-store clerk was explaining, then I sold my story to the National Enquirer for $12,500. His two bosses each grabbed a cut of the money.
The Simpson murder has had tremendous impact on market conditions in and around Los Angeles for gossip. The prosecutor, Clark, said last night that her witnesses were perfectly honest, no matter how much they got paid, because the media only wanted to hear the exact truth.
Doesn’t she think that for double the money, the sales clerk at least might have said that Mr. O.J. had asked for a knife that would be good for cutting off someone’s head? Certainly, if it were my money on the table, I would expect something a little special. At this news outfit, though, we don’t pay for information and so are reduced to begging.
But if this court hearing goes on much longer, the market for Simpson information may crash, and fast. Court papers that came out yesterday claimed that someone left blood in Simpson’s Bronco, along his driveway, on his doorstep, in his foyer and in the bathroom. The word for this is a “trail.” And it’s not one that was created by an open and free market in evidence-mongering.
Last-second deals still are being cut all over Los Angeles. Yesterday afternoon, Dr. of Bristol Circle in Brentwood had his plastic garbage cans confiscated by the police department. He lives next door to a vacant lot owned by another doctor, and which is worth $2 million. The police spent the afternoon in the lot with metal detectors. They left with two brown paper bags, contents unknown, and Dr. Tohme Tohme ‘s barrels. They are still looking for the knife that Mr. O.J. bought for $74 plus tax.
“They told me that they’re going to look around. They took all the trash cans,” said Dr. Tohme Tohme .
He didn’t look too upset. A man from “A Current Affair” had knocked on the door and asked if there was a good place to film the search of the vacant lot. After a brief discussion, it appeared that the good neighbor found the camera man an excellent vantage point.
“An all-cash deal,” said the camera man. “Believe me, he got more than enough to replace his garbage cans.”
