Excellent point. Aren’t federal background checks of any potential employee needing secret clearances mostly about items in a person’s history that could be sources of blackmail? (I know elected officials do not get the FBI scrutiny but all State Dept employees, for example, do get them.)
Elected officials have to receive security background checks in order to receive clearances to reveiw classified materials.
