Updated at: 2250 PST, Saturday, June 27, 2009 TEHRAN: The editor of a campaign newspaper for Mir Hossein Mousavi on Saturday accused the defeated presidential candidate of "causing" the death of Iranians in protests after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election, local media reported.
Amir Hossein Mahdavi, 27, told reporters gathered at the news agency he was also a member of the Islamic Revolution Mojahedeen Organization -- one of the key reformist groups backing Mousavi for the June 12 poll.
Several of its leaders as well as prominent reformists and journalists were jailed shortly after the election, which Mousavi has dismissed as a "shameful fraud."
"Now that Mr Mousavi's stirring statements have caused the killing of some compatriots he is trapped" by his misjudgment, said Mahdavi, who edited Andisheh No, a four-page newspaper dedicated to covering the moderate candidate's campaign.
"In my opinion it is not too late yet and he can protest through a legal process and draw a line between himself and those trends which have caused chaos and bloodshed," Mahdavi said during the long interview.
Iran's top political arbitration body, the Expediency Council, has called on all the candidates to cooperate with a panel supervising a partial recount of the June 12 election.
Mousavi campaign managers and aides could not be reached by a news agency to comment.
Mousavi has called for the cancellation of the poll results and has vowed not to back down in the face of pressure. He has also urged supporters to pursue peaceful protests and avoid violence.
The Iranian capital saw massive demonstrations against Ahmadinejad's disputed re-election and at least 17 people have been killed in clashes with security forces.
Mahdavi also criticized Mousavi for declaring himself a winner on June 12 evening "while voting had not ended in many places."
Iran's state television has previously aired "confessions" by rioters, saying they were influenced by foreign media and most notably by the Voice of America, which has a satellite channel in Persian, to protest and damage public property.
Yeah, blame it the other guy.
Source is Pakistan (or Pock ee stahn, per out Littlest President Ever)
Some Catholics in Mexico in 1810 blamed the deaths of Mexicans upon Hidalgo, who tried to raise up an army of peasants against a Church/State system.
Please say ‘confession by beating’ ten times fast...
Torturers and Liars!!! Murderers!!! Spawn of the Devil!! Abominations before God!!!
Zero laments waterboarding as torture and Demorats call for prosecution over interrogations, but when women are beaten to death in the streets like dogs, and tortured and battered barely-alive men are paraded on state television by his Muslim bretheren just before they also are murdered, he and his party turns a blind eye. COWARDS!!
Pray for the tortured. Pray for the dead. Pray for the women who stood up to fight and were hacked to death with axes. Pray for the men willing to die to take their country back from the Arab interlopers and their bastardized religion of death. Pray for their strength and for our own.
Persia Azadi !!!! AZA.....DI !!!!! FREE....DOM !!! EVERYWHERE !!!!
Allow me to tidy up that headline: “Mousavi backer, held at gunpoint while his family is threatened, blames him for Iranian deaths”
