Since the writer dreads the advent of more conservative influences in the UK, it appears he is misinformed about who is actually responsible for the increasing restrictions in his country, and he will not find happiness anywhere else.

well since it looks like you view conservatives as a bad thing i would not advise the USA. try netherlands (has the most personal freedoms in europe “of course some bad things too because of that” and more important since you are a EU citizien you can stay and work there forever if you feel like.
