Losing with ACES
National Review ^ | June 25, 2009

Posted on 06/27/2009 5:14:49 AM PDT by reaganaut1

The hot debate about climate change has now found expression in an actual piece of legislation, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES). If a vote on the bill occurs, what Congress will in fact be weighing is the implementation of carbon rationing in the United States. The evidence is clear that the regulatory regime under consideration would be contrary to the public interest. Good economic sense should trump ACES.

The bill represents a terrible deal for American taxpayers. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, ACES is projected to impose costs averaging about $1,100 each year on every American household by 2050. What do we get in return? Even if the law works precisely as intended — not very likely — the grand result will be that, a century from now, we should expect surface temperatures to be a about one-tenth of one degree Celsius lower than they otherwise would be. Of course global warming will impose costs, but the expected costs of ACES are at least ten times the program’s expected benefits, even using the EPA’s cost estimates and assuming the full achievement of its goals.

Our green friends concede that ACES may be a terrible deal by itself, but insist that the United States should lead the world by example — and thereby achieve wider benefits. These hopes are vaporous: The strategy of unilaterally giving away our best negotiating leverage (reducing our emissions only if other nations reduce theirs) in the hope that those nice men who rule China will be shamed into sacrificing their own economic interest — if only we jump off the cliff first — is naïve. More fundamental, the global deal that we would theoretically be chasing isn’t all that attractive, even if we [accept the UN IPCC predictions].

These climate change wackos are just a PART of the problem. It will take real revolution to make real change. Will we ever take America back? Will we sit on our hands?

It has suddenly come to my attention that this bill is not about global warming at all. Nor is it about the power produced by coal, or gas, no this is all about power produced by money, my money, your money, in the wrong hands. Treachery, treason, wrong doing, criminal activity, malfeasance in office, robber barons at work. We are beset by vicious, evil men and women intent on doing the devils business, who are now in control of what our founding fathers left for us to protect, at the expense of our lives if that is necessary. Just as their example for us. We are long past the time where we should have been shouting with all the strength of our being, L I B E R T Y or R E V O L U T I O N.

Well put. I will shamelessly borrow this phrase as if it were my own.

Destroying us bit by bit , one bill at a time.

"Bit by bit" has transformed into "large chunk by large chunk".....

.....Things are moving fast now.

* GM

* Chrysler

* The banking and insurance industry

* Health care

* Electricity generation and demand side regulation

* Strangulation of the domestic oil and gas industry by limiting exploration and production

* 1000 newly invented ways to tax your income

* Increased on-demand abortions and very possibly future forced abortion (if fetus is found to have birth defects) and euthanasia, all in the name of controlling health care costs

* Gay education in kindergarten

* Gay marriage

****** PLEASE MAKE IT STOP *****

Exactly. The real purpose of the bill is to take down America for good; the goal which the new leftists have been striving for since around the thirties.

And the worst part is that the scumbags are closer to achieving their goal than they've ever been before.

I've been thinking about this.. and I have been so extremely angry for 6 months, since this do-gooder got elected. And the inability to do anything about it, other than vote and attend a few rallies, send some money here and there, and debate a few work folks and friends..... all against a rising tide of Obama, the news media that is in his back pocket and that is propagandizing his issues... I guess that inability to change anything, is what angers me the most.

I feel at times as thought 1984 has finally arrived as Orwell prophecized. The entire meaning of words has even changed.. when bad is good... how the hell are regular folks, who watch this American Idol crap, how the hell are they ever going to know what is really happening.. and the answer is they won't know, and they don't know.. Until 10 to 20 to 30 years from now, when this all comes crashing down as is happening at this very moment in California..

And at that moment in time, I believe, that all this massive spending and "transformation" will be looked upon as a grand experimental flop. All the idiotic programs will be rolled back, because of the US national bankruptcy, and that will all happen when the real crisis between Social Security, Medicare, state Medicaid, and various programs, takes place.

Then, our Obama, our next Ronald Reagan will come along and a rising tide of reform will take place.. And either that will happen, or the US power will diminish to such a point, the China will sweep thru this country and enslave the lot of us. That slavery could be in the form of a forced Union with China, with a possible world wide currency and government. I honestly believe that some or all of the above is entirely possible. I get that the above is full of a whole lot of "ifs".

Something tells me reading crystal balls and tea leaves, is going to continue to be a very huge commodity.

Great. Since we currently seem to be in a cooling cycle, the lying thieves will tell the ignorant masses how they have saved humanity with this latest legislative turkey.

It’s rough, and as you say our inability to make ourselves heard is the greatest part of the problem. Stats show that Americans do not want cap and trade, do not want Universal health care, did not want the stimulus package, and yet the Congress is all behind it. They are not listening , and I am afraid it will take force to make them listen.

Most Americans who arent collecting entitlements are working and cannot , or will not jeopardise their positions or jobs to protest or take time off to make the tea parties or use civil disobedience to make themselves known. That is the major problem. They dont have the time to leave their families and work to protest in Washington like the Welfare rent-a -mobs of the liberals. It better change, we had better make them listen or we wont have anything to save.

I agree Venturer... I don’t think force is an option, however. It’s going to have to be persuasion. It will take someone with incredible oratory skills to get through the haze of the massive liberal media.. and it’s a hard sell.. it’s like: “elect me, because I will do less.. I believe less is better, I believe in LESS GOVERNMENT.”

most idiots feel they aren’t getting their money’s worth , with that type of philosophy and political agenda.
