Pilots are trained to deal with anomolies, and we deal with them REGULARLY. Which is why cutting back on simulator time is Not a Good Thing. Most, but not all, of that training for "anomalies", occurs in a simulator, not a full sized aircraft out over the ocean or desert.

Simulator TIME means nothing. Good training in a simulator does. Past FAA mandates on time are silly. What pilots use better is targeted training in the simulator. The old FAA system used time limits. The modern method is to train to proficiency on highly focused training. Of course, buzz phrases sound good to an uneducated public - but I will take good training over timed training every time.
