Banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for his unorthodox religious views, minister Roger Williams set out in 1636 and settled at the northern tip of Narragansett Bay, which he called Providence Plantations. Williams founded the first Baptist church in America and became famous for embracing the separation of church and state, a legal principle enshrined in the Bill of Rights a century later.

There were 11 or 12 other men with him, one of them was my ancestor. I know about the Jefferson letter to the Baptists a 166 years later or so but I thought the Bill of rights simply stated that the Feds were ordered to keep out of religion and that a wall was created around the federal government shutting it out of the subject, not making it the deciding authority and the force to drive it out of our culture and lives.

In fact, FReepers should open accounts on Huffie Post₍₁₎ so we can respond to the leftist loon tripe and lies posted there. There are a few Conservatives on Huffie, but we're greatly outnumbered.

And, you won't get banned, zotted, or tomb-stoned like on DU₍₂₎ for responding -- as long as you 'keep it clean'. I even get email alerts from Huffie Post. I save my responses for the really outrageous stuff that must be refuted with facts.

The "seperation of church and state" is constantly misrepresented. The "congress shall make no law..." in the BoR had to do with the fear that the feds would meddle in the states religious requirements; that's right, at the time of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, 12 of 13 colonies had religious requirements for office holders (and the only one that did not--VA--was working on its law).

For example, some states required a belief in God, while Delaware required a belief in The Trinity. They did NOT want the feds telling local communities how to change these laws. The libtards have lied about this as they have lied about so much.
