As Commissar Lynch primly notes in her report, Americas First Amendment absolutism on free speech is out of step with the growing global consensusthat would be the growing global consensus represented by the CHRC and its distinguished guests.

Reading anything Steyn writes about those morons at the CHRC is like sitting back and watching the Air Force drop bunker-busters on gopher holes.

The Conservatives only have a minority in parliament, and the Liberal party recently voted at it’s own convention to expand the powers of the CHRCs, so they won’t support elimination, the socialist NDP won’t support elimination either.

...reasonable people pondering Canadas strangely ambitious Official Censor might object not just philosophically but on Professor Moon-like utilitarian grounds: if youre not smart enough to debate Ezra Levant, youre not smart enough to police the opinions of 30 million people. I've no idea who Ezra Levant is. But I've no doubt that Ms. Lynch has been smited with a scathing insult that will leave a large red welt.

Ezra Levant is a friend of Mark Steyn's and the former publisher of the now defunct conservative
Western Standard. He had a run-in with Alberta's infamous Human Rights Commission, that ordered him censored for opinions of which it disapproved. The premise behind Canada's federal and provincial thought police bodies is to protect the public from "hurt feelings" - which means from anything they deem politically incorrect. Its a nice form of despotism - but all the same its still despotism and ought to have as a matter of principle, no place in a free society.

I read Levant's article about his dust-up with CHRC. He is to be applauded for his perserverance in the face of tyranny.

Ezra Levant, as far as I know, is the editor (maybe more) of McClean’s Magazine, the one that published Steyn’s article that got all the muzzies in a tizzy. Steyn and Levant were hauled before the court of censorship.

Ezra Levant, as far as I know, is the editor (maybe more) of McCleans Magazine, the one that published Steyns article that got all the muzzies in a tizzy. Steyn and Levant were hauled before the court of censorship.Levant isn't the publisher of Maclean's. He was the publisher of the Western Standard, a conservative newsmagazine that no longer has a paper edition.
Levant was hauled before the Alberta HRC after the magazine published reproductions of the Danish Mohammed cartoons, and a Calgary imam filed a complaint. Steyn and Maclean's went before the British Columbia HRC after Maclean's published an excerpt from America Alone and the Canadian Islamic Congress complained. Similar cases, but not connected.
