Ending his neutrality on a controversial climate bill meant to curb greenhouse gas emissions, Rep. Nick Rahall came out in opposition Thursday on the eve of a planned showdown in the House.
Known as cap and trade, the proposal would compel industries to curtail emissions by 17 percent by 2020, out of concern they contribute to the unproven theory of global warming.
Rahall told The Register-Herald the 17 percent standard was still too high, and he wants to see more emphasis on the development of clean coal technologies. In its original draft, the bill specified a 20 percent reduction.
Thats the bottom line for me in this bill development of clean coal technologies, he said.
Help us lower emissions and reach the goal we all want to achieve, which most importantly is keeping our hard-working coal miners in their jobs and providing power for this great country we all love.

Cap and Trade is really Tax and Control for every aspect of human activity. It will be the final nail in the coffin of American liberty.
For those who are unfamiliar with it, some agency (probably the EPA) will decide how much carbon is going to be created by any activity. For example you have a manufacturing business and each wigit requires x amount of energy, they will tell you how many you can make. If you want to make more, you must buy carbon credits from an exchange. Or since plowing a field results in carbon dioxide being released from the ground, you will need carbon credits for each acre plowed. So a farmer might need 10 credits to plow all his land but only be allocated 5. He needs to then buy more. Or he can plant nothing, and sell his credits on an exchange. In effect they have created a new commodity out of thin air, created a huge new tax, and total government control of everything.
There is also a wealth transfer component of the plan. Supposedly every person who makes less than 30k per year will get a direct cash subsidy from the government, on the proposition that they use less carbon that rich people. Thats how the RATS hope to buy support. Of course people wont realize how much the increased cost of everything they buy is due to this scheme.
Finally, these exchanges will take a cut from every trade of credits. Those investors are set to make untold billions from this. Among the largest early investors in these exchange businesses is...Al Gore. What a shock.
Thought they already had a test vote and it passed?
They did.
it’s going to the floor for a vote
they will give political cover to Dems in contested seats and pass it with just a few vote majority
not sure about the Senate
I emailed and thanked my rep.
Queen Pelosi has rounded up enough Dims to pass the monstrosity without the votes from from the coal states. That way Rahall and his ilk can plead not guilty when their states go into economic collapse.
I called my Congressman’s office in Bangor and expressed my hope that Rep Michaud would vote against the Cap and Trade bill. I voiced my concern that 300 pages were added to the bill at 2 am this morning.
I have the impression that others were calling as well.
“They did.

This is not good!
>It appears the whole West Virginia Delegation will be voting against this bill. <
As they should. And so should Virginia, who uses a huge amount of WVA coal to produce its energy.
Gotta make sure this documentary makes the rounds... it will be *very effective* for anyone who views it...
Its one thing to gripe and complain about these things and disagree with it, but its quite *another* to convince your friends and neighbors and relatives and coworkers...
THEREFORE..., its also absolutely necessary for people to know the information in the following documentary. If there were simply *one* video that you could see and/or show people you know... this would be the *one*...
The following is an *excellent* video documentary on the so-called Global Warming I would recommend it to all FReepers. Its a very well-made documentary.
