It may not be typical to shop for cars priced as high as some mortgages, but it sure is fun to fantasize about the ones you'd purchase if you ever make it big (really big), or get lucky with the lotto (really lucky)...

If Nader had been serious about saving lives he would have gone after cars like the Camaro, Firebird, Corvette, GTO, Cobra, Mustang, Porsche 911, and any other go fast die young automobile.

His attack on the Corvair was a pure publicity stunt, he picked one car at randomn from GM’s offerings and killed that car, just to show what he could do.

I next had a 180hp Corsa! An original zoom zoom turbo, with gasoline heater! Looked like this...

My first wife destroyed two boxes of pics and 8mm films from my yute. I lost pictoral memories of my first Scout camping trip, to stuff I took in the Navy, and early marriage. I owned 37 cars (mostly VW's) during that time.Fortunately, I had lots of the newer stuff in my possession, after separation.

Life continues, and thanks to the web, others memories often facilitate our own!

I would like a 20-30’s era Rolls Royce pickup with a modern day high performance engine and modern day electronics.

I bet nobody has ever read the John D. McDonald series of “Travis McGee”.

The most fun car I owned was a '65 VW Karmann Roadster (not to be confused with the Ghia sport). I put fat tires on the back, headers to make noise, and rode all over Wrightsville Beach (NC) and Shell Island. At the time, the only access to Shell I. was through a low tide channel. You had to get onto the north end of WB, then drive over. It was a fun place and you stayed over there until the tide went back down again (hurricanes have since closed that channel and they built a motel where the inlet was!!!).

Shell Island was frequented by fisherfolk and Meyer Manxs types. I just got a running start and drove through the soft sand and onto the beach. After that, it was like driving on concrete, as long as you stayed on the beach. 70 miles and hour (almost flat out!), top down, and roaring through the low tide surf was quite a thrill at 23, with a new wife and baby...

There were dunes and places to play, and nobody worried because the winds and surfs erased all traces. We always took some boards with us for getting unstuck. We netted some fish and fried them in oil on an open fire, with friends.

LIFE WAS SURELY DIFFERENT THEN...

Cool post. Some of those cars are butt ugly. I guess Edsel, Desoto, and Studebaker weren’t too big to fail, though, eh?

Perfect of its kind, but a little more perfect (I know, I know,) if white with a red leather interior. Wretched excess forever!

I bet nobody has ever read the John D. McDonald series of “Travis McGee”.

I read them all multiple times. You are talking about "Miss Agnes."

Correctumundo! In the latter episodes he had a big block racing motor installed.

Now this is a person I was saddened to hear of his death, his novels had me enthralled for many years.
