Sen. McCain remains thorn in Obama’s side [McCain thinks he's president] [love-hate relationship]
The Hill, Washington, DC ^ | 2009-06-25 | Alexander Bolton

President Obama made a vigorous effort after the election to court Sen. John McCain, hoping his campaign rival would become a Senate advocate for his ambitious agenda.

Instead, McCain (R-Ariz.) has emerged as one of the chief gadflies leading Republican opposition to Obama’s biggest legislative initiatives.

Nevertheless, Obama and other Democrats still cling to the hope that McCain can be persuaded to help advance their priorities.

Obama responded this week by reminding McCain of the outcome of the 2008 election. “I am the president of the United States,” Obama told reporters.

McCain told The Hill that he is still willing to partner with the president on some issues.

“I’m always willing to work with the president if I can,” McCain said.

McCain has had a hot-and-cold relationship with Obama that predates the 2008 presidential contest.

Shortly after Obama came to the Senate, the two joined forces to rewrite lobbying and ethics rules, but the alliance crashed amid an exchange of angry letters.

McCain accused Obama of “self-interested partisan posturing” and Obama questioned McCain’s commitment to finding a bipartisan solution.

Their race for president became nasty at times — during debates, McCain could barely stand to look at his opponent.

But McCain also defended Obama from unfair attack, most memorably when a woman accused Obama of being “an Arab” at a town-hall meeting.

McCain corrected her, then stated, “He is a decent, family-man citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues.”

(snip)

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) predicted McCain would emerge as Obama’s “secret weapon.”

What exactly is your point? Just guessing, I would say that it was relief that Obama won. Please tell me you are not one of the tinfoil hat wearers who belief that by actually voting for Obama and destroying the nation, that we are actually saving it?.

If you are looking to denigrate McCain at least pick a better article. From what I read, I give McCain kudos. Not sure you are really making your case with this one.

It should be no problem for McCain to stick a knife in us. He has been doing it for years.

Thorn in his side? Thorn in his side? Give me a freaking break. Juan is so far up Zero’s behind that he needs Barney Frank’s proctologist to extract him.

McCain on October 10, 2008 told the old woman in a town hall meeting, “Obama is a good man, a decent man, a citizen,” followed in the next sentence, “You don’t have to be afraid of him as President.”

As a 'people of Arizona', I IMPLORE you to stay on your side of the fence and deal with your own mob of fine, upstanding politicians.

Yea. I've always had a soft spot for guys that spend their entire careers stabbing their ostensible allies in the back while kissing up to the opposition. I'm positively dreamy when they combine with interests from the opposing party to usurp the nomination, and then spending the entire election season complimenting and genuflecting to the opposition, while dragging their party down to defeat.

What I really like is, after it becomes apparent just what a disaster for the country the election of the opposition's candidate has become, when this guy still can't stop sending bouquets and compliments to the upcoming budding dictator. What's not to like?

Obama and his band of thugs should NOT give up hope that Juan can be persuaded to help them advance their agenda.

According to Obama; anyone who criticizes him; must think they are 'president'. Seems Obama thought Cheney had such imagininings as well.

Truth is. . .there are those who may be friends; and there are those who are not; but there are 'moments'; when someone, has to step upto the plate and make the appropriate call against Obama; and when that person is McCain; we can at least stand with him.

Of course, for Obama; those moments can last years; and they probably will.

What more do they want from McCain? The little mutt threw the election. What he is doing now is trying to repair his tattered, slimy reputation.

Everytime I turn around his little creep alcolyte Lindsay Graham is on TV talking tough to the Democrats. He is counting on the voters in South Carolina to forget calling Americans who did not want amnesty for millions of illegal aliens bigots.

I sincerely hope that voters throw these two bums out of office. Neither of them is fit to represent the people in their states.

Can anyone tell me what it was like to have a press that asked tough (and OBVIOUS) questions? I mean, if a guy won the presidency promising to “put away the bipartisanship” but spends every time that he talks to the opposition reminding them that “I won I won I won! You lost, neener neener neener!” doesn’t that sort of sound even more hyperpartisan than Bush was supposed to have been? I mean, I think Bush pulled out that “Dammit, I WON the ELECTION, SIT DOWN” card like, ONCE.

Did you read the article? My guess is probably not. There are many other things we should be focusing on right now that McCain. But my point is if you are trying to make your point that McCain is all things evil, chose another article, because this one makes the case that he is Obama’s head when it comes to foreign policy. Lastly, aren't these threads played out? We have been seeing the same info regurgitated over and over again. If I have read one, I have read them all.
