REcently lost a friend to a massive heart attack. No one could understand why he died, since he was in a health club and CPR was started virtually right away. I figured it was because, when they did surgery on him they found what they said was 100% blockage. So, it doesn’t matter how many chest compressions you do if the blood is not getting to the brain. Maybe I’m wrong tho.
Very sad anyway.
Very true.
I’m very sorry about your friend.
CPR keeps the blood flowing enough to keep the brain and vital organs alive until the heart can be restarted with meds or a pacemaker or by correcting whatever made it stop in the first place. If the heart has a significant blockage, blood can’t get to part of the heart muscle even with CPR, and if too much heart muscle dies, there’s just nothing that can be done. Even a bypass can’t bring dead heart cells back to life.
I thought a 100% blockage meant that the vessels supplying oxygen rich blood to the heart were blocked but I could be wrong.
