Pew: Palin is the most popular Republican 73% of Republicans have a favorable opinion of Gov. Sarah Palin (17% unfavorable) while only 57% have a favorable opinion (18% unfavorable) of Mitt Romney.
Now, I may not know much about presidential politics, but I am pretty certain that before one can get elected president, one has to win the partys nomination first a concept that Hillary Clinton had a difficult time grasping last year as she began her general election campaign in January instead of the traditional after-winning-the-nomination.
Which leads me to conclude that Mrs. Palin is in the drivers seat with Gov. Romney riding shotgun.
The Pew Research Center for the People & the Press polled 1,502 adults on June 10-14.
This was at the height of the David Letterman controversy, Letterman having told the Willow Palin joke on June 10. That may have skewed the poll. I dont know.
Also this was an all adults survey, rather than likely voters or even registered voters. That tends to skew the results.
Pew made a big deal about their overall favorable/unfavorable ratings among all voters. It is too early for that comparison.
Among all adults, Palin is at 45/44 and Romney is at 40/28 but by the time the election rolls around, any Republican gets beat up; shes recovered from 42/48 just before the 2008 election.
Within the party, she is golden. In many ways, her popularity reminds me of Ronald Reagan. She is not as polished as a speaker or as a thinker. Reagan had a very clear if unfashionable for the time idea of what America is about in the Carter years. He was considered old and dumb and a good actor.
The 2012 election is way off. But Republicans are known to go with the guy who finished second last time. Is it Mitt Romney, who finished behind John McCain in the primaries? Or is it Sarah Palin, who almost carried McCain to the White House last fall?
Republicans seem to be leaning toward Palin
Anyone here surprised at that? I’m not.
Go Sarah.
Michael Steele:
CLOSE
THOSE
PRIMARIES!!!!!!!
I think everyone, in both parties expects that she will be the main threat in 2012, like an Alaskan grizzly, ready to eat all those soft fatty behinds in DC.
SARAH!!!!! SARAH!!!!! SARAH!!!!!!!
My question is who are in that 17% I think with a little RINO weeding we will see single digits there.
Damned right she’s the MVP...and (flame suit on) she can thank John McCain for making her that way!
Hush...
Don’t tell Mitt...
She is also most feared by the liberal democrats. Which in my book makes her the perfect candidate!
In 2012, it will no longer be ‘historic’ to elect a black guy. But it will be very historic to elect the first female.
If Sarah is the nominee, look for Obummer to dump Biden for Sebelius or Cantwell.
But not Hillary. She’s too polarizing.
If Sebelius can push through socialized medicine I think Biden gets dumped...(and Sarah is the nominee)
Duh!
President Palin, I like that better than VP Palin.
73% of Republicans have a favorable opinion of Gov. Sarah Palin (17% unfavorable) while only 57% have a favorable opinion (18% unfavorable) of Mitt Romney.
I think the ticket will be Palin and Romney, although who is at the top of the ticket would be purely a guess. Of course, there’s always a chance that someone like DeMint could become a viable candidate.
“Republicans seem to be leaning toward Palin”
SEEM to be?
Watch for Bachmann too, She’s a time bomb. The left will notice her and then it’s off to the races. GREAT conservative women. OHHH Yeeeaaahhh!
Well, since Mark Sanford decided a 4,500-mile nookie run was more important than a shot at the leadership of the free world, maybe I should start with the Palin/DeMint 2012 bandwagon. :)

Yep, she'll be running next time. Hopefully she can get a good team of capable people backing her. She has my vote in the primary.
Palin would make a great president.
However, to get her there, we need to close the primaries. And we need to give her the money- NOT to the RNC.
The racists that voted for Zero just because he was (1/2) black will probably vote for him again in 2012. The independents might come to their senses and see exactly what Zero stands for, despite the media. True conservatives will vote for Sarah.
I know that I will vote for Sarah. I will NEVER vote for a RINO like McCain again. Local, state, federal, NEVER AGAIN.
I will never vote for the lesser of two evils again, just to get the least evil person into office. I will never hold my nose and vote again.
RNC- are you taking notice???
