Gov. Mark Sanford admitted to having an affair with a woman from Argentina at a much anticipated Tuesday afternoon press conference. Sanford said he and his wife are trying to work through this. Sanford called himself selfish. Gov. Sanford is also chairman of the GOP Governors' Association. He said he will tender his resignation.

I’d vote for a Botswanan witchdoctor if he’d promise to leave me alone and stop spending.
I suspect that, being a Southern lady, she'll handle it with far more grace and aplomb than about 99% of the people on this thread.
I am one of those who gave him the benefit of the doubt until we knew whether or not he'd actually done something wrong. Now that we know, sorry I can't share the seemingly jubilant outpouring of acrimony. I've supported Sanford for years, and I'm just sad, mostly for SC.
I just love hearing from all of the perfect people who seem to expect their righteous outrage to fully illuminate the remnants of the Republican Party. Their perfection humbles me.
I think that is more ethic, than Puritan. Even non-Puritans believe that is wrong.
I'm hoping for a lot of FReeperbabes to weigh in on this.
Personally, I'd love to see an immediate press conference in response to the politician's where the spouse steps up to the microphone and says "I've thrown his sorry ass out of the house and have already been in contact with my attorney."
I've never been married but have never cheated on a girlfriend. How and why do women put up with this ultimate act of betrayal and are willing to "work thru this"?
I wouldn't........if I found out my spouse cheated on me that would be the last day we ever spent with each other.
Sanford, you big dummy!
Tell us exactly what you want us to get over? The idea that men should be faithful to their wives? The idea that marriage is between one man and one woman? The idea that public sex should be prohibited?
No, but with the MSM the way it is, if it was a ‘him’ it would have led the story.
The rub here is that he left in secret, ditched his security detail, and took off to Argentina for some tail on the sly, unbeknowst to even his Lt Governor, who had anything gone wrong, been defacto Governor.
In the Military they call that being AWOL.
He can sing all the amen chorus’ of “Don’t Cry for me, I was in Argentina” all he wants, but the bottom line is he WAS derelict in his duty, and should resign or be removed.
That goes for any Governor, Republican or Democrat, Conservative or Liberal, and all those inbetween.
Booty call!!! Do the kids still say that?
Believing it is wrong and purging them from office for it is two entirely different matters.
Hmm, bikini shots are now off-limits on FR?
This explains DeMint’s evasive answers re: Sanford on Beck last night...he must have had suspicions.
The sex is not as serious as the stupidity involved in the affair. How could a Governor, ditch his protection detail, fly out of the country, then expect not to offer an explanation? In all fairness he couldn't, so he is either grossly stupid or sick, in either case he is unfit for the position which the people elected him to perform.
Yes, he should resign. He not only dissed his wife and children but he also betrayed the trust of every one of his constituents.
I’m guessing he isn’t up for “Father of the Year”
Our Founders did not want to mix politics with religion for a reason. Things can get out of hand like the Salem Witch Trials.
The GOP will continually be hung with the “hypocritical” petard as long as we try to preach about behavior to others. Let the church do that.
The perceived Puritan ethic as mentioned in #5, which is what I was responding to.

Exactly. He is term-limited and wants to run nationally. He knows what an affair will do to his national aspirations, so what does he go and do ...
Self-destructive, just like Clinton.
I agree.
