I think we, as conservatives, have to drop the personality cult thing and simply support those who will support our ideas and principles. If we try to support them as “great human beings”, we’ll continue to be disappointed. As a general rule, decent people do not get involved in politics.

And then we continue to lose.

Personality cult stuff is human nature, and a lot of voters pay attention to that. What we need is a candidate who is BOTH - conservative AND has a cult of personality about him, like Reagan did.

Everyone is flawed in some way, shape or form. Politicians cannot and should not be put on pedestals. If we wait for perfection, we’ll be waiting forever.

Imho, there is obviously something very wrong in Sanford’s marriage. Something is seriously missing.

Perfectly said Chet...
Basically, like I’ve been saying for a while now, vote for the person that will do the least amount of damage to the country.
I hope this fool resigns asap.

Well, Sanford did. That’s what’s so disappointing to me about this...the guy was one of the two or three best governors in the country when it came to fiscal conservative principles and small government. He fought like hell for seven years against a General Assembly (dominated by his own party) that was determined to pork it up. He had a reputation in SC as a good family man, but he wasn’t an uber-preachy Huckabee-type about it.

And now here he is, Eliot Spitzer with a drawl. It really hurts.
