I wonder if I’m better off taking the Actos or just
dieting and excersizing and hoping that the blood sugar
goes down by itself...

If you can control your blood glucose by diet and exercise, do that! Avoid high fructose corn syrup, hfcs is the keyword, too. I posted more than a few on hfcs which promotes triglyceride lipogenesis.

My husband takes Actos and Amaryl-1 each per day. He had to get off metformin(glucophage) because blood markers showed he wat at risk for taking it any more.

In Jan, this year, he had 4 bypasses and the cardiologist wants him off Actos because it tends to make one retain fluids. His gen dr. also has bypasses, diabetes, and high blood pressure and has thousands (past and present) on Actos with no cardio events seeming due to Actos.

My husband cut his Actos dosage in half and still keeps blood sugar low. His dr. said he could cut it out if he wanted to and see how he does with Amaryl only. The cardiiologist is standing on one ear and then the other because my husband cannot take the usual drugs prescribed for bypass procedures. My husband has low normal heart rate and low normal blood pressure, which the cardiologist said usually means longer life.

The whole upshot is that we are all different and mostly get treated as a list of symptons instead of a unique organism. I think we have to keep informed, pay attention to our own bodies, and help make decisions instead of blindly taking everything the dr. orders.

Neither my husband nor I can tolerate statins, which I do believe has been described for fully 80% of Americans. The Medicare prescription section is going broke partly for paying for statins that do not prevent immediate life threatening medical problems.
