Yes, one POTUS, 50 governors ...

But both are the Chief Executive for the entity they govern (scary in Obama’s case).

From our good friends at Wiki:

The Governor of the State of South Carolina is the head of state for the State of South Carolina.

Under the South Carolina Constitution, the Governor is also the head of government, serving as the chief executive of the South Carolina executive branch.

The Governor is the ex officio Commander-in-Chief of the South Carolina National Guard when not called into Federal use.
IF his trip was really unknown by his staff and wife, he shouldn't have done that.

However, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that his staff and wife DID ACTUALLY know where he was, but just didn't cover for him very well ...

In other words, all things being equal, I'd prefer those with good intentions, but are not proficient at "covering" for others ...

... over those who LIE with with impunity and no remorse, while greeting you with a handshake and a smile.
