You’re making the mistake that far too many conservatives make: The number one qualification needed for a candidate is to be ELECTABLE. The Democrats had a very, very electable POTUS candidate in 2008 (and a second reasonably electable candidate), and the Republicans didn’t. ELECTABLE has to come FIRST — no other qualifications should get one iota of attention until the electability screening has been passed. Way too much conservative energy is irretrievably wasted on fawning over unelectable candidates, and subsequently on wailing over the very predictable results.
