NEW YORK (AFP) – UN chief Ban Ki-moon and the mayor of New York on Tuesday announced plans to launch "Climate Week NYC" on the sidelines of a UN summit in September to galvanize public support for a landmark global warming treaty by year's end.

The event, to be held September 21-25, will feature five days of cultural events, workshops, seminars, and other activities organized by non-governmental organizations, businesses, artists, and academia.

Ban told a press conference that it would coincide with the summit he is hosting at UN headquarters on September 22 "to mobilize the political momentum needed to seal the deal in Copenhagen (in December) on a fair, effective and scientifically ambitious new climate framework."

With New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg at his side, the UN secretary general said he was joining forces with the city and non-governmental organizations to launch Climate Week NYC.

"Climate change also must be addressed at the national level with measures that will encourage America to shrink our climate footprint," Bloomberg said.

"America should be a leader (in combating global warming) in the world."

Bloomberg needs to STFU already.

We are in a cooling period now, temperatures are affected by sun spots, not recycling plastic bottles.

Our good Lord, how much needless carbon will be spewed into the atmosphere holding these senseless activities and the travel to and from them.

And indulgences paid do not have a damn bit of effect on the climate.

Hypocrisy thy name is a liberal.

They are at least getting smart. Any weather can happen naturally in September, so there will be nothing to embarass them. They look silly having a global warming protest on a 70° day in July or snow storms when Algore shows up.

It is “interesting” to see the propaganda campaign for Obama’s AGW 1.3 trillion Tax-and-Trade being developed in the ABCNNBCBS and MSM media: About as “interesting” (and almost as accurate) as seeing the Protocols of Zion being written.

Climate Week, huh? What are they going to do, bring in a tribe of Sioux and do a rain dance? About as effective as the cap n’ trade.
