“What should we do about it? We have knowledge, we have networks, we have an emerging horizontal process to generate norms. We now need those emerging norms to create an international framework, and then to internalize those norms into our domestic law, while at the same time applying supply-side solutions, and harmonizing our national approach with those of other countries....”

A “citizen” of the “Tower of Babble” nation speaks!!!!!!!!!!

These pseudo intellectuals are know-nothings.

If someone is concerned about murders and assaults with guns they need to work on reducing the social production of murderers, not the production of guns.

One can see the evident truth of this in the United States, where the production and availability of guns is most free the rates of assaults and murders involving guns is lower than it is in places where the production and availability of guns is most restricted. Obviously something other than the production and sale of guns is at work in setting the rates of assaults and murders using guns.

Um, no, actually what we're drowning in is statist totalitarians, though today where people try to find clever ways to make use of waste material, they might be good firewood or something. (And I still say this guy looks like Bobby Lee, the Asian guy on MadTV -- with apologies to Bobby Lee)

A perfect example of an effete intellectual snob. Oh yeah, and a nabob of negativism too.

I thought I heard nattering.

Japanese Admiral Yamamoto said that Japan would never seriously consider an invasion of the US because there was “a gun behind every blade of grass”. Sounds more like plus than a minus, don’t you think?

That will really be a sticky wicket, the first time either the President or Congress signs on to an international treaty that directly contradicts the US Constitution. They will claim that international law and the greater good trump the Constitution of a single country, but the Constitution specifically will not be negated by international treaty. It will be a Kodak moment.

“But Obama won’t take away your guns.” No, he’s happy to let the anti-American “international community” attempt that with their statist treaties.

Right on, Joe. Those who have any doubt about Hussein’s agenda (never mind his grotesque voting record) should be convinced with a look at who he has appointed or nominated — a) Sonia Sotomayor, and (b) this nut-case Harold Koh.

Waky-waky, America!!

Nice pic of “pudgy boy Koh.” Just think, if his family hadn't left North Korea, this globalist/elitist little prick would still be in North Korea eating grass, or trying to swim the Yalu River to “escape” to “freedom” in China.

Instead, he's writing gun-control drivel for consumption by his fellow globalist/elitist “peer group.”

The UN can pass all of the international treaties on disarming the sheeple they want...Our spineless, gutless Congress can even ratify those treaties...but when it comes right down to it, there are going to be hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of American gun owners, armed to the teeth and in a real bad mood, who are not going to comply with disarmament treaties. Just who does Uncle Koh think is going to come and do the actual “disarming” part of their disarmament treaty?

Once again, a liberal uses the causality that “guns equals death” or “guns equals war” and conveniently leaves out a discussion about the person behind the gun, pulling the trigger. He even mentions massacres that occurred with machetes and knives, yet he still only focuses on guns as the basis for evil and not the people handling them as the cause for the problem.

I agree...they will never get this crap through. I even think the "moderates" are having their fill of Obummers' agenda.

And Koh should definitely have a salad sometime.

We have knowledge, we have networks, we have an emerging horizontal process to generate norms

I have very little idea what that means. But I know what norms are. Here's one, written "in stone" as it were.

"...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".

That's one of those norms that so many FReepers, and others, have sworn oaths to support and defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Koh would seem to fall into the latter category, "domestic enemy" of the Constitution. But he's an Obama nominee, so why should he be different?

Scary thing about janet reno’s storm trooper’s picture. His finger is on the trigger aimed at a 5 year old boy. Think about that.

And he is/was an Border Patrol agent, from the BORTAC unit not a BATFE agent, who are generally considered to be the scrapping from the bottom of the barrel among US law enforcement agencies. Border Patrol Agents are considered to be several steps above them, but this BORTAC unit sounds like the Special Training Unit of the BATFE, a fictitious (?) unit within BATFE.

Well if we’re drowning in guns let the feds lead by example and disarm the ATF, the marshalls service, the FBI, FEMA, HUD, the IRS, the library of Kongress staff, etc. I’m not holding my breath

Blue helmets make easy targets, and anyone with a foreign uniform on our soil with arms is an invader, and should be treated as such by all members of the unorganized militia.

There are even more obvious threats in "A World Drowning in Guns" (Fordham Law Review, Vol. 71). On page 2342 (from the bottom of first paragraph): "Those seeking to create and embed certain human rights principles into international and domestic law should promote transnational interactions, that generate legal interpretations, than can in turn be internalized into the domestic law of even skeptical nation-states. Applying this approach to developing a global regulatory solution for small arms and light weapons, we can break down the problem into five stages:" .... "Fourth, "horizontal process"... The goal, as I have specified elsewhere, is creating a law-declaring forum that can operate at the global level to declare and international norm against the illicit sale, transfer and use of small arms and light weapons..." "The fifth and final step I call "vertical process", the process whereby rules negotiated among governments at a horizontal, intergovernmental level and interpreted through the action of transnational actors in these law-declaring fora are brought down vertically into the domestic law of each participating country --"brought home", if you will-- and internalized into the domestic statutes, executive practice and judicial systems of those participating nations." It is truly ominous. We should prepare to fight this.
