Drudge now reporting he has been found...possibly in the Atlanta area.
From WSPA in Spartanburg, SC...
The mystery of the missing Governor may be solved. The location of Gov. Mark Sanford has been unknown since Thursday of last week, when The State newspaper reported Sanford left the Governors Mansion in a black SLED Suburban SUV. Sanford was reported to have made a cell phone call from the Atlanta area shortly thereafter.
Late this afternoon, Joel Sawyer with the Governors Office sent News Channel 7 this statement:
The governor put in a lot of time during this last legislative session, and after the session winds down its not uncommon for him to go out of pocket for a few days at a time to clear his head. Obviously, thats going to be somewhat out of the question this time given the attention this particular absence has gotten. Before leaving last week, he let staff know his whereabouts and that hed be difficult to reach. Should any emergencies arise between the times in which he checks in, our staff would obviously be in contact with other state officials as the situation warrants before making any decisions.
First lady Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press earlier Monday her husband has been gone for several days and she did not know where, but she was not concerned.
The AP went on to report that Jenny Sanford claimed the governor said he needed time away from their children to write something.
The governors office issued a statement Monday afternoon: Gov. Sanford is taking some time away from the office this week to recharge after the stimulus battle and the legislative session, and to work on a couple of projects that have fallen by the wayside. We are not going to discuss the specifics of his travel arrangements or his security arrangements.
