The whereabouts of Gov. Mark Sanford have been unknown to state officials since Thursday, and some state leaders are questioning who is in charge of the executive office.
Neither the governors office nor the State Law Enforcement Division has been able to reach Sanford, who left the mansion in a black SLED Suburban SUV, said Sen. Jake Knotts and three others familiar with the situation who declined to be identified.
Sanfords last known whereabouts were near Atlanta, where a mobile telephone tower picked up a signal from his phone, authorities said.
One official familiar with the situation said there is no indication that foul play is involved.
. . . . .
First lady Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press her husband has been gone for several days and she doesn't know where. She said she was not concerned. Jenny Sanford said the governor said he needed time away from their children to write something.
Sanford doesn’t strike me a publicity hound, although I don’t know that. That’s what concerns me.
From what I could tell, it appeared that Gov. Sanford made the decision that morning to drive over to Greenville for the tea party, stopping along the way to pick his 3 boys up from school. When he was announced, one of the first things he said was that he had told his sons when he picked them up that he was taking them to meet some "real patriots." I thought that was kind of phoney...the kids looked nervous, a bit uncomfortable standing on the platform...their ages appeared to be 8-9 for the youngest, then a boy about 13 and another about 15-16.
I was standing right in front of the podium...I was a bit disappointed by Gov. Sanford's remarks...he seemed a bit milk-toast to me. And after the mess with the state legislature over the stimulus money, I had hoped the gov. would resign instead of signing off on it.
I hope this is nothing as to his whereabouts, an innocent "get-away," but it does seem strange that he would go away over Father's Day weekend.
Well, that’s good. Let’s hope that Gov. Sanford is OK and that Lt. Gov. Andre “Speed Racer” Bauer doesn’t have to run the state for very long.

What the heck??
Giants stadium end zone for JH. Maybe Plax caught the winning super bowl catch just above him!
Very odd. I wonder if he is having a medical problem. I hope it is nothing illicit. We don’t need the media screaming about yet another Republican “scandal.”
This sounds like the 1990s when Gov Kirk Fordice from Miss. went off without any staff or security. On his return home he got into a bad auto accident.
I'll bet she doesn't know where he is or what he's doing.
I'm guessing it's more likely she knows what he did and doesn't give a crap where he went.
He's writing his "I strayed" note to the kids, which will be released to the media for the kids to read in the newspaper.
Just a hunch.
#14: Hmmm. Maybe Obama’s FBI files reveal something about his personal life and he is being blackmailed to not resist the stimulus package. Maybe he is trying to decide how to respond. Could get very interesting if he decides to fight it (if that’s what’s going on).
Find Waldo...
I’m hoping for the best.
#30: Raptured? I would hope some of us would be with him.
Crappola.
He is getting a little nip here, tuck there.
Possible run for a higher office.
Or else he ran off with Andre’ his pool boy.
Botox treatments?
How do you know I’m not?
Maybe he’s talking about the press and other politicians. I think we’d all agree that most of them are “children”.
Har, har - good one.
Maayyyyybe. Are any units deployed from the South Carolina Army National Guard right now? Maybe a squadron from Shaw AFB?
Seems odd that he wouldn’t show up for two or three days afterward, though.
