Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: — Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.—Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Question. Silence in the face of murder in the streets of Tehran and a government killing our citizens and soldiers. Vocal support for democratic elections and unseen consequences.

We should speak clearly and forcefully in favor of free speech and free elections and against this thuggish repression.

The argument the Mullahs will try to smear the opposition based on this is pure crap. They already tag any opposition as pro-American and pro-Jew.

Obama's refusal is speak out is just disgusting.

My hunch is Zero does not want to speak out stongly in case it ‘doesn’t work’. He can’t stand any political/personal embarrassment....because, quite frankly, he’s a p****. It’s all about HIM and nothing else.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was sent as a missionary to a Black Church in Brooklyn NY. There he was exposed to a different kind of worship and affection for Jesus than he found in the traditional Churches in Germany.

But he longed to go home even though he understood the spiritual darkness that had swept through his homeland.

Knowing full well of the consequences he headed home and became the spiritual and intellectual conscience of World War II Germany.

Before the war ended, he was sentenced to death in a German prision.

when one of your enemies slays another one of your enemies you have a situation where evil is canceling evil; thus to stop the one evil from slaying another evil would be to aid and abet............an evil, which of course, would be to have acted complicitly with an evil. Thus, in wishin to avoid complicity with evil in such a situation one finds one’s hands become tied.

Other interesting lyrics in this song..

“Blame is better to give than receive”

“I will choose a path that’s clear”

One of these Obama practices often, the other he does not.

From the scripture:

Ezekiel 33

Ezekiel a Watchman
1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 "Son of man, speak to your countrymen and say to them: 'When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman, 3 and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people, 4 then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not take warning and the sword comes and takes his life, his blood will be on his own head. 5 Since he heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning, his blood will be on his own head. If he had taken warning, he would have saved himself. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.'

7 "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 8 When I say to the wicked, 'O wicked man, you will surely die,' and you do not speak out to dissuade him from his ways, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. 9 But if you do warn the wicked man to turn from his ways and he does not do so, he will die for his sin, but you will have saved yourself.

10 "Son of man, say to the house of Israel, 'This is what you are saying: "Our offenses and sins weigh us down, and we are wasting away because of them. How then can we live?" ' 11 Say to them, 'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Israel?'

12 "Therefore, son of man, say to your countrymen, 'The righteousness of the righteous man will not save him when he disobeys, and the wickedness of the wicked man will not cause him to fall when he turns from it. The righteous man, if he sins, will not be allowed to live because of his former righteousness.' 13 If I tell the righteous man that he will surely live, but then he trusts in his righteousness and does evil, none of the righteous things he has done will be remembered; he will die for the evil he has done. 14 And if I say to the wicked man, 'You will surely die,' but he then turns away from his sin and does what is just and right- 15 if he gives back what he took in pledge for a loan, returns what he has stolen, follows the decrees that give life, and does no evil, he will surely live; he will not die. 16 None of the sins he has committed will be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he will surely live.

17 "Yet your countrymen say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' But it is their way that is not just. 18 If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does evil, he will die for it. 19 And if a wicked man turns away from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he will live by doing so. 20 Yet, O house of Israel, you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' But I will judge each of you according to his own ways."

Bonhoeffer was condemned to death on April 8, 1945, by SS judge Otto Thorbeck at a drumhead court-martial without witnesses, records of proceedings or a defence in Flossenbürg concentration camp. [33] He was executed there by hanging at dawn on April 9, 1945, just three weeks before the Soviet capture of Berlin and a month before the capitulation of Nazi Germany. Like other executions associated with the July 20 Plot, the execution was brutal. Bonhoeffer was stripped of his clothing and led naked into the execution yard, where he was hanged with thin wire for strangulation.

The camp doctor who witnessed the execution wrote: “I saw Pastor Bonhoeffer ... kneeling on the floor praying fervently to God. I was most deeply moved by the way this lovable man prayed, so devout and so certain that God heard his prayer. At the place of execution, he again said a short prayer and then climbed the few steps to the gallows, brave and composed. His death ensued after a few seconds. In the almost fifty years that I worked as a doctor, I have hardly ever seen a man die so entirely submissive to the will of God.”

From Wikipedia: Bonhoeffer delivered a radio address attacking Hitler, in which he warned Germany against slipping into an idolatrous cult of the Führer (leader), who could very well turn out to be Verführer (mis-leader, or seducer).

Our idol of today: Obama.

Our media, our politicians, our press, our leaders (religious and otherwise) - all bow down and worship at the cult of Obama, a man without even a birth certificate.

Who is our Bonhoeffer of today? Who will speak out against the cult of the idol? Who will risk the wrath of the Obama administration as it slashes it way through corporate America?

Okay I have done such a thorough job of ignoring BHO that I missed this statement of his in April 2009:

"Human rights is an ideal, not a priority".

Did he really say that?

But then when we have a duplicitous, corrupt media doing his bidding, it's not surprising this statement hasn't been publicized.

This statement really is unexplainable to me.

I believe silence only speaks to those that hear what they want to hear.

My favorite along those lines:

Throughout history it has been the inaction of those who could have acted,
the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the
voice of justice when it mattered most, that has made it possible for evil to
triumph.
