Obama's Persian Tutorial
Wall Street Journal ^ | June 22, 2009 | FOUAD AJAMI

President Barack Obama did not "lose" Iran. This is not a Jimmy Carter moment. But the foreign-policy education of America's 44th president has just begun. Hitherto, he had been cavalier about other lands, he had trusted in his own biography as a bridge to distant peoples, he had believed he could talk rogues and ideologues out of deeply held beliefs. His predecessor had drawn lines in the sand. He would look past them.

Thus a man who had been uneasy with his middle name (Hussein) during the presidential campaign would descend on Ankara and Cairo, inserting himself in a raging civil war over Islam itself.

-SNIP-

Mr. Obama's June 4 speech in Cairo did not reshape the Islamic landscape. I was in Saudi Arabia when Mr. Obama traveled to Riyadh and Cairo. The earth did not move, life went on as usual. There were countless people puzzled by the presumption of the entire exercise, an outsider walking into sacred matters of their faith. In Saudi Arabia, and in the Arabic commentaries of other lands, there was unease that so complicated an ideological and cultural terrain could be approached with such ease and haste.

More evidence that the world is not as impressed by the charades of the wunderkind Obama as are the American press and the Kool-aid drinkers.

The mad mullahs are using terror to silence their people. And they’re getting tepid reactions out of Obama because he’s too weak to push back. All they have to say is it’s America’s fault and Obama gives way. He basically accepts their premises that the US is to blame for the malice of the mullahs.

I think I know what Fouad is saying...but Obama IS Carter-like. He didn’t lose Iran because he never had Iran...but Obama really thinks because his Muslim “roots”...whatever that means...make him more palatable to the middle east.

Obama is as stupid as Carter was concerning the Middle East. What Carter accomplished between Egypt and Israel was in no small part due to Sadat and Begin, too. Carter was patient with those two men, I’ll give him that.

Obama is no friend of the people who WANT to be free in the middle east: Israel, Iraqis, and the pro-Western segment of the Iranian students (they do exist!).

Obama IS a friend to Hamas. He gave them about a billion dollars right after taking office for “rebuilding” the Gaza strip. Hamas endorsed him for President. Hamas raised money for him.

Obama IS a friend to the Iranian gov’t. He even said a couple weeks ago he thinks they ought to be able to pursue nuclear power. And now look at their actions. He is barely able to generate a statement after a week of protests.

Obama is not for freedom. He is for totalitarianism.

"More evidence"

More evidence on how the NeoCons hope to marginalize Obama and his realist/pragmatic approach.

Notice about half way down in the article how NeoCon Ajami makes the reference to "Wilsomianism".

Notice in this article from NeoCon Kagan that Obama may claim to be a realist but he is really a Wilson Idealist

Obama is still using rhetoric as if he’s still trying to defeat George W. Bush. All he seems to do is try to point out how different he is from the last guy.

In the meantime, the radical Islamists don’t care one bit. They are full speed ahead on their own goals, knowing that Obama doesn’t have half the heart and has none of the determination of Bush.

They will continue to run circles around us, until Obama catches up. Unfortunately, it will take a disaster for him to learn that he is not nearly as well thought of overseas as he is in his own mind.

Carter went to the US Naval Academy. He had to pick up his anti-Americanism later. Obama was raised on Marxism and anti-Americanism. His view of the world was shaped by people like Frantz Fanon and Bill Ayers. How can he ever see anything that the present Iranian government does as rising to the level of evil of the CIA intervention in Iran in 1953?

The left, in general, believes that EVERY world problem is because of the USA.

They are spoon fed this untruth from birth.

I guess the NeoLiberals are happy now that Obamah has sided against the Zionist in support of Israeli victims Hezbollah & Hamas!

You can spin it however you want to but the reality is that Prez Bush dropped the NeoCons in 2006 and replaced them with the Realists/Pragmatists. Obama is continuing that strategy. Just listen to what Lugar said Friday on CNN and what Nicolas Burns said Thursday on CNN.

I have no idea what Lugar said nor Burns?

It just dumbfounds me that liberal Jews, NeoLiberals, would support Obamah even as he demonstrates even less support for the Jewish state than Jimmy Carter.

Both Bush and Obama back the two state solution.

Everyone wants to ignore that and talk about the minor issue of the settlements.

Netanyahu supports the 2 states. That is simple.
The qualifiers hold the key, however.
Bush and Netanyahu conditions are far different than BO’s.
