When it comes to carbon, Boulder finding it's tough to make the cut
Denver Post ^ | 06/22/2009 | John Ingold

Like other green-leaning Colorado cities, Boulder finds good intentions aren't enough to meet greenhouse-gas goals.

Even for Boulder, an icon of earthy urban planning, saving the planet doesn't come easy.

Faced with a looming deadline and lagging results in its efforts to cut carbon-dioxide emissions, city leaders recently vowed to redouble their efforts.

The City Council earlier this month voted to raise the city's "carbon tax" — a charge based on how much electricity one consumes — to the maximum $21 per year for residences and $94 per year for businesses.

And Boulderites aren't pikers. Many of the 20 or more Colorado towns and communities trying to meet targets in cutting greenhouse gases are finding it a challenge.

"The goals that people are talking about achieving ... are ambitious," said Stephen Saunders of the Rocky Mountain Climate Organization.

Boulder officials are crafting a plan to send technicians door-to-door to encourage residents to install more-efficient light bulbs or weatherstripping. And city leaders are negotiating with Xcel Energy to get more renewable energy onto Boulder's power grid.

Even with all of that, it remains uncertain whether Boulder will be able to reach its goal of reducing greenhouse-gas emissions to 7 percent below what they were in 1990.

Man-made gases — primarily carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels — are building up in the atmosphere, trapping heat and altering the global climate, according to United Nations scientific studies.

In 1997, the Kyoto Protocol called for carbon- dioxide cutbacks — 183 countries signed the treaty; the U.S. did not.

These "studies" refuse peer review, therefore are not scientific, according to the Scientific Method.

Also, the US DID sign the Kyoto Treaty, but it failed to get ratified in the Senate, 0-99.

"183 countries signed the treaty; the U.S. did not."

Just how effective was Kyoto again? Did the US out perform many Kyoto signatories even though we didn't sign?

“Technicians?” LOL!!!!

How many Boulder city technicians does it take to change a light bulb?

I suppose this is what is meant by “green jobs”-”Official Light Bulb Change Advisor Technician I”

Don’t know how much this helps stop “climate change” but it does help keep the riff raff down the road. Ironically then the help have to drive to Boulder to clean the houses and mow the grass and wipe the butts of the priveleged white libs. Oh the sanctimony never ends and the game continues, America’s politics becoming nothing more than a status seeking charade.

A very, very small part of Boulder (CU’s Science and Engineering) departments contain persons having measurable IQs. I’m sure that they are well aware of the idiocy of the CO2 movement - but as is per usual in the People’s Republic - they will keep their mouths shut in the interest of self-preservation.

It’s about time we started braying the truth before these idiots permanently screw up our economy and our lives.

All this “Green” crap is a cult, a perversion of religious sentiment, there is no truth or science in it and its followers are a bunch of brainless dickwads.

They should STFU and get themselves real lives within the scope of their limited abilities.

“Boulder officials are crafting a plan to send technicians door-to-door to encourage residents to install more-efficient light bulbs or weatherstripping.”

Govt snopes and thugs going door to door in the name of fighting the hoax called “climate change” (formerly “global warming”). That’s the REAL goal, people! And Colorado is cheering it on...

Boulder would reduce its carbon emissions dramatically if it just required its subjects to stop breathing -- and enforced the requirement.

I bet they could get all the way down to zero carbon.

If every liberal in Boulder would stop breathing for 24 hours the problem would be solved.

Q: How many Boulder City techncians does it take to change a
lightbulb?

A: FIVE
One to diagnose the problem and make a report to file with the city; two (2) to return for a reinspection AFTER the homeowner pays a fee and obtains a permit to change the lightbulb and another permit to dispose of the existing lightbulb; and one to inform the customer that approved replacement lightbulbs are no longer available in their location but can be obtained by mail for an extra fee, if an extension of the permit is obtained- also for an extra fee.

Make that 6 minutes. Why prolong the agony, ours that is.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. When Boulder sees fit to address the real issue, of destructive wind, and actually proves that it can do something about it, then and only then, will they have some credibility, on the issues of climate. and I might be willing to listen to their crazy ideas on climate change, and CO2. I’m not holding my breath for six minutes.
