Tropical Storm Andres formed overnight off the southwestern coast of Mexico, becoming the first named storm of the season in the Eastern Pacific and the latest arrival in 40 years, forecasters said Monday.

All you Gulf Coast residents, check your battery powered radios.(since Big Brother took away our battery powered TV's.}
“All you Gulf Coast residents,”
It’s in the Pacific, not the gulf!
Can you elaborate on this? I'm out of the loop.
Didn’t you get your Government Coupon for a new battery-powered digital TV?
The switch to digital broadcasts has rendered most portable TVs useless.
I have used a little battery powered TV for when the power goes off during hurricanes. They were very inexpensive and stored it the attic until needed. I could even wire it to the truck battery and watch the progress of the storm.
Now, with the new digital only signal, you have to buy an expensive battery powered tv to be used only once every few years.
I'm back to radio only for emergency use.
Yep, and since I live on the gulf coast, its time to start thinking hurricane season. Also of note was the very late date for the FIRST storm of the season. Thanks for clarifying for Yankees.
During Hurricane Ike, our only source of news was an AM/FM/Weather/TV band radio. We are out in the country, and on the outer fringe of radio reception. We relied on the TV band exclusively, but now that option is gone. That’s progress for ya!
Now that I think of it, I don't see those little TVs around much anymore.
I want a bailout.
Batteries, bottles and bulletins.
And bullets.
And beer.
And bratwurst.
Seriously, I found a solar powered cell phone charger and consider that to be a very usefull tool. Almost always after a hurricane, the weather clears out and gets real hot with lots of sunshine.
Another thought, will there be a hurricane “barak” this year. OH wait, we are in the middle of hurricane barak and have been since Jan 20.
One word: Generator (I prefer propane)
Welcome to the club. Since Obama voters rely on government to get themselves out of trouble, they have no use for emergency supplies.
Who cares about those rebel conservatives that try to prepare!
“Also of note was the very late date for the FIRST storm of the season.”
I don’t know how far back they are foing but we used to spend the last 2 weeks of June every year in the 60s and 70s at Cabo marlin fishing from the hotel boats and there was only once that a storm swept up the west coasr of Mexico when we were there.
We had to have the boat out of Cabo and back north by the 15th of June or the insurance was canceled so the 21st isn’t late for the first storm.
Jim Cantori and The Weather Channel are so happy!
