just say no....
I did this in 1990 when they sent me the long form of the census to fill out. I filled out only the information necessary for the allocation of votes for my area which is the basis for the census in the constitution.
I got a call at work from one of the nicest people I ever talked to who informed me that I didn’t fill out my census form. I told him that I filled out that portion of the form that satisfied the intent of the census, and that, respectfully, that was all I was going to fill out. I told him that I was prepared for the possible consequences of refusing to fill out questions like what kind of movies I went to see and the like. I asked him why the census bureau was asking these kinds of questions. He said the purpose was that if they got more money from Congress, this information would tell them where to apply it. I asked him what his party affiliation was, given what he was saying. Bet I don’t have to tell you what his answer was.
We talked for about 10 minutes after that about things. In the end, he said he kind of agreed with my position on the purpose of the census. I wonder to this day if I won one over!
That’s all the info I’m giving too.
And God help ACORN if they come to my house w/o a warrant and a SWAT team.
I did mine over the phone. Every answer that did not pertain to the number of people living in my household was answered by “decline”. The lady on the other end of the phone did her best to wriggle some info from me but did not get much. When I protested some of the questions SHE was the one who said I had the option to “decline” an answer.

If you are threatened with fines or legal action by a census taker by phone or in person use this:

Repeat for each question asked.
