Just putting forth someone different is the same as trashing her.

And in return they will trash you, at least she an he are of the same stripe when it comes to supporting amnesty for illegals.

Rubio’s success in Florida should be a sign to all Republican’s that conservatives win elections.

I fear the party has their heads so far in the sand they will look at this election as an exception, not the norm.

The GOP will continue with their Dem-Lite platform losing elections as the base completely leaves and so called moderates are turned off by the parties ever increasing acceptance of the liberal platform.

Man that is the way it is. Obama doesn’t appeal to thinking he appeals to hearts. It is much like the issue of homosexuality intelligent people refuse to apply reason to it. They get caught up with the generalities and do not want to think about the details. It is brainwashing pure and simple. We live in a society extremely susceptible to mass delusion. They can be deprogrammed. We have made huge in roads against Global Warming and environmental madness but it takes persistence and the continual crafting of pervasive arguments and unfortunately hitting the right emotional buttons and planting political antibodies (simple populist phrases that can easily be accepted as true) that inoculate people against liberalism.

After reading some of the earlier posts, I see that there are some questions about Marco’s position on illegal immigrants. I don’t know enough to say how significant that is, or what his other positions are, though I don’t doubt that he is much better than Charlie Crist.

So, I’ll just respond to the headline.

No single, relatively unknown politician is THE answer to the Republican’s problem. Maybe he is AN answer. We need lots more real conservatives, both in office and in the leadership positions like the RNC.

Evidently this needs to be built from the bottom up, since the current leadership, as typified by Steele or Charlie Crist, is totally clueless, corrupt, weak, and stupid.

So, good luck to him if he’s really conservative. And if I were a Florida voter I’d certainly vote for almost anyone in the primary rather than Crist.

“...we are agreement on nearly every issue except one and that is the fact they are a Democrat and vote that way blindly.”

I’ve had the same experience, also with lockstep white libs. They will agree on every issue but cannot bring themselves to vote for a Republican.

Somewhere in the late 60’s/early 70’s, the GOP got tagged permanently as the heartless party, the party of the rich, etc. The Dems are the party of the big-hearted, and of the ‘little guy.’ All of which is pure BS.

The GOP would do well to unravel the Dem image first, and then rebuild its own.

I was at a dinner last night where educated people, Obama campaigners all, talk sickeningly about how much they love Obama and the New Congress. I tried to educate them in a sensible way and scored points on healthcare, taxes, civil rights (for everyone, not just the perceived losers), etc. By the end of the dinner/wine/beer, they were talking like Ron Paul.

Is that supposed to be an improvement? Get them talking like Fred Thompson or Sarah Palin and they might exhibit actual progress.

Come on, Brytani, you seem to know about Rubio!

Did Rubio block ever bill addressing illegal immigration in the Florida leglistature?

A Republican who puts demographic favoritism above law and order is NO Conservative!!

A conservative woman and Latino would be excellent in 2012.

Much better than a RINO white guy.

Another one? The only thing the GOP needs is for the media to tell the whole story and that ain't gonna happen. Abe Lincoln couldn't get good press nowadays.

I trust absolutely nothing Maelstorm says about any Senate candidate. Check his track record.

During last's year Senate campaign, Maelstorm was one of the biggest cheerleaders for Illinois GOP establishment's sacrificial lamb choice against Dick Durbin. Maelstorm falsely depicted their guy Steve Sauerberg as solidly pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-family. In reality, Sauerberg said he was reluctant to overturn Roe v. Wade and admitted to the Daily Herald be believed abortion should be legal in "some circumstances" (refused to give specific examples throughout the campaign), admitted he was okay "some" types of gun bans (including supporting an assault weapons ban "if it was written right"); and hired a Bush-hating radical pro-gay marriage activist as his spokesman.

While you might be able to make the case that Sauerberg is not as liberal as Durbin, no one could honestly say with a straight face that Sauerberg was a "pro-life and pro-gun" candidate after studying his position. Maelstorm clearly misrepresented Sauerberg's views, and also falsely depicted him 'within striking distance of Durbin' (when it reality Sauerberg consistently polled behind Durbin by double-digits) in order to con freepers into throwing their money down the drain on a hopeless campaign.

Check Maelstorm's posting history if you don't believe me.

The freepers I would most like to hear is the FL freepers who OPPOSED Mel Martinez in the 2004 primary (which by the way, made up about 55% of FL Republican primary voters). I too, opposed Martinez five years ago, predicting he would be a "go-along-to-get-along" type, but we were outnumbered by the pro-Martinez crowd who insisted the guy would be a great conservative leader despite his history as a liberal trial lawyer, former Democrat, Bushbot, and GOP establishment choice.

Obviously in hindsight, we know the Floridians who had qualms about the GOP nominating Martinez were correct. I'm pinging those freepers, in the hopes they could share their insights on the current crop of U.S. Senate candidates in FL (ALL of the Republican candidates, not just Rubio and Crist), and their track records in office.

“Well, here is a conservative Latino who could make the case for conservatism to young people and minorities.”

Why is race a deciding factor? Does this mean that Caucasians vote for Caucasians,Latinos vote for Latinos, etc... If that is the case then I guess the largest voting block, Caucasians, should vote for a candidate of their race.

One should vote based on qualifications and principles rather than the color of ones skin.
