IIRC, the tipping point for the 1979 Iranian Revolution was when military units started defecting and joining up with the protestors. The Shah, at that point, realized the gig was up and decided to leave.

I only hope the military decides to come in on the side of the protestors. I have no faith in the Revolutionary Guards to do so but maybe the regular armed forces will.

It will have to be the regular army and a lot of us are tweeting to Iran for them to do just that. The Basij and Revolutianry Guard are going to have to be put down along with the Mullahs.
