Yah, we should give the Iranian reformers encouragement and false hope that we would support them if push comes to shove, just like we gave the Iraqi Shiites encouragement to rebel against Saddam in the early '90's.

Or, for that matter, the encouragement to Hungarian revolutionaries the US gave back in 1956; and we (i.e. the Eisenhower administration and NATO) did nothing when the Soviets crushed the uprising.
