Now we learn that Russia has it’s own missile defense all the while demanding we not have our own missile defense?

It’s not a secret, S-300 system has had anti-missile capabilities since the late 90’s at least.

Well, hold on a minute. We are being told that Russia has a missile defense system. But, we’ve not seen it, and we’ve not seen it in action, from what I read. So, maybe it’s a couple of sheep herders with binoculars and AK’s, out on the border?
AFAIC, I’d rather not put my money on a Russian anything, at this point.

To your other point. YES! We need, and should be building, a US missile defense capability that will protect America from whatever threat any cranky nutjob in the third world can cook up.

The Russians are famous for bluffing with a seven high busted straight, knowing full well that lil Kim’ll never call them. That missile has as much chance of “straying” over Russian Territory as it does of making a soft landing on Phobos.
