I've always wondered about that. I would think the Joint Chiefs has some say, but then I don't know.
However, I do believe if we were nuked, and we knew who did it (which may not be determined with Iran/NK proliferation), would the CIC have the cojones to launch from our Tridents?
Our Trident submarines are the first and last best deterrent against the "reasonable" peoples of the world. Unfortunately, in this day, we are dealing with "unreasonable" entities who want their virgins and olives and some religious Imman to climb out of some well.
Iran's nuke capabilities need to be DESTROYED yesterday.
North Korea needs to be confronted, also. Yes, I know they have some thousands of artillery placements that could devastate Seoul, but think how worse it could be if they go nuclear.
You people who actually think that every Nation has a right to nuclear weapons are friggin idiots. I, personally, believe you who are okay with that, live in the backwoods somewhere. Otherwise, you would be VERY concerned about your neighbors going 10,000 degrees.
And yes, it could happen. It's only a matter of time if the West allows NK/Iran to give/sell their weapons to small radical entities.
