NEW YORK , June 17 (UPI) -- A New York jury has acquitted a 24-year-old man accused of heckling Laura and Jenna Bush and assailing a wheelchair-bound teenager and her family.
The New York Post reported Wednesday a Manhattan Criminal Court jury acquitted Gary Talis Tuesday on assault charges stemming from an April 2008 incident in which Talis allegedly attacked a family following a New York appearance by the wife and daughter of then-U.S. President George W. Bush. The Bushes were in New York to talk about their children's book, "Read All About It."
Authorities had accused Talis of shouting obscenities at the Bushes before attacking John Lovetro's family at the event.
Lovetro testified against Talis during his trial, as did Lovetro's daughter and wife Wendy. The Post said several New York police officers and one Secret Service agent also offered testimony against Talis.
At the time of the incident, the Post reported Talis allegedly started punching Maureen Lovetro, who has cerebral palsy, on the shoulder blades after John Lovetro told him to shut up. When the father pushed her wheelchair away, Talis allegedly reached past him to strike her on the thigh.
The two men then allegedly fought as the Bushes drove off.
Because a headline that said “Man aquitted of charges for assaulting cerebal palsey victim at Bush book tour event” wouldn’t make it sound like Free Speech vs. evil Bushies.
Imagine the verdicts in the terror cases in NY
Guilty! Of being a left-wing jerk. Imagine, the guy gets into an argument with the family, so he punches the daughter in the wheelchair. Good thing they didn’t have their dog with them, or he would have kicked it. Typical brave left-wing protestor.
As for the jury, they can go back to collecting welfare checks and watching “The View”.
Sounds more like a hate crime — verbal abuse and handling a conservative, handicapped young lady.
It had to be self-defense. He was hitting a girl with cerebral palsy in a wheelchair.
The guy may not have two nickels to rub together, but why not bring a civil suit?
“...working at McDonald’s or some other minimum wage job for the rest of his life.”
If not, he is most likely a young college professor.
I don’t remember seeing this in the news last summer. A crazed leftist attacking a girl with cerebral palsy and cursning at a first lady. Im sure that would have made the news/ sarc
What a court.
That news item was on the same page as the list of recipients of DSC, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Navy Cross, and MOH. Interestingly, there were also photos of all the girl’s schools built or repaired in Iraq and Afghanistan on that same page. /sarc
LOL, they have never even been there.
With pleasure ;)
