Congressman’s wife snarled in bribe probe
Detroit councilwoman caught in scandal over sludge contract payoffs
DETROIT - City Council member Monica Conyers, the wife of a prominent congressman, sought political support from Baptist pastors and prayers from constituents Tuesday as her re-election bid collided with a corruption probe involving cash bribes handed over in fast-food parking lots.
A person told The Associated Press that Conyers is the "Council Member A" listed in a court document as receiving more than $6,000 for her fall 2007 vote on a multimillion-dollar sludge contract.
She has not been charged. The information comes from a person with knowledge of the investigation who asked not to be named because the person was not authorized to speak publicly.
No suggestion has been made that Conyers' husband, Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., has any role in the investigation and it appears unlikely to dent his nearly 45-year political career.
In Washington, he said he hadn't talked to his wife Tuesday and wasn't aware of any discussions with prosecutors.

In the third paragraph they identified her husband with a “D” by his name, but the word “Democrat” is not mentioned in the article.

The other article says she has been served with a demand for plea (enter a plea bargian by friday or you will be charged).
You are right. In the 19 paragraph article on MSNBC.com, the word Democrat does not appear one time. Only Conyers' brief "D", behind his name, is the only allusion to his party identification. His wife's party ID is not mentioned at all.
sigh...another Jefferson moment. (She has not been charged?) Okay.

My comment obviously went over your head. The point is that if she were the wife of a Republican, the headline would have been:
If you read the AP element’s of style - Republican belongs in any derogatory headline and D is appropriate as long as it comes in or after the third paragraph.
My understanding is that half of the Detroit City Council is under Fed investigation right now.

Considering that the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan is a Democrat, don’t expect anything major to come of this.
There is no need to identify Detroit politicians with their party.
There are literally no Republicans holding office in
