As dole queue grows, bank workers and teachers among the 2,000 a day applying for a McJob (UK)

Fast food giant McDonald's is being swamped by more than 2,200 job applications every day, including from bank workers, graduates and teachers.

The level of applications suggests the stigma surrounding the 'McJob' has been swept aside by people who are desperate for work and an income.

Figures to be published today are expected to show another surge in unemployment, taking the figure towards the three million mark.

While many thousands of university students are currently leaving full-time education carrying huge debts and without any job to go to.

Among the few sectors that are bucking the recession and rising unemployment are fast food chains and some supermarkets.

While these sectors can provide useful, flexible jobs and income, they are not the international wealth creators such as manufacturing and financial services that will drive the UK out of the economic mire.

McDonald's said that it is currently hiring 140 people a day to flip burgers, cook fries, serve customers and run its restaurants.

In the past month alone it received 305 trainee manager applications from people with a wide variety of backgrounds in finance and banking, education, hospitality and the retail sector.

I’m blessed now, but I remember what it was like.

No laughter, please. These are not bad people who deserve their current plight.

Union leaders have accused the Government of failing to take the measures necessary to support international wealth-creating industries, such as manufacturing.

Thanks, Kettle, I never knew the Pot was black.

I thought if we were heading down the road; most graduates here in America could hope to see maybe 30,000 in salary no matter what kind of education.

It’s worse than I could imagine.

How’s that hopey changey thing going for ya Obama voters knowing that Obama is destroying any hopes of making real money or having a free life to call your own? The only thing you can hope for is a controlled dead life with a minimal amount of money that will never get you anywhere.

Any work is infinitely more honorable than an able bodied person living off of the productivity of others.

Doesn’t surprise me: I was a recruiting supervisor (that’s my background) for the U.S. Census earlier this year before I found out about ACORN’s involvement. We had applications from PhD’s, teachers, executives, etc. for $11-15/hr. temporary jobs with no benefits! And this is in Fort Worth, Texas, where the recession is mild.
