Killing Nazis wasn’t enough of a challenge, he fought the system in Indiana (in 1945, of all times). I think even Indiana governors were KKK members around that time.
Kudos, sir.
Well done, Airman.

Off we go into the wild sky yonder,
Keep the wings level and true;
If you'd live to be a grey-haired wonder
Keep the nose out of the blue!
Flying men, guarding the nation's border,
We'll be there, followed by more!
In echelon we carry on.
Nothing will stop the Army Air Corps!

That’s our county...and YES KKK was strong in the state government...
My father helped convict the state head of the Klan, David C. Stevenson, of murdering his secretary about that time. Dad was a clerk in the federal court system, Hammond IN, top of his graduating class in IU law school and paid the price by having offers from major law firms withdrawn. The Klan also decided at that time, who could teach in the state.....Extremely powerful.

Thanks packrat
and directed in 1951 to serve a further 10 years in prison. In 1953, he pleaded for release from prison, denying that he had ever been a leader of the Klan.
This was the time period that dad was involved. He was claiming he had not had due process to gain his release, but he had used all legal avenue appropriate to him. Proving his involvemnt in the Klan was no problem.
