Caught on camera: Cop scuffles with EMTs after pulling over ambulance

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released dash-cam video showing an altercation between a state trooper and the crew of an ambulance that he pulled over.

The video shows the paramedics repeatedly tell Trooper Daniel Martin that they have a patient in the ambulance and need to get to a hospital.

Martin chased the ambulance down and pulled it over after the driver refused to yield when the trooper's car first encountered the vehicle.

Trooper Martin initially passed the ambulance while on his way to another call, but left that scene moments after arriving.

He then encountered the ambulance again and pulled it over. The video shows an altercation erupt when paramedic Maurice White, Jr. attempts to intervene as Martin yells at the ambulance driver.

The pair struggle briefly more than once during an altercation that lasts several minutes and eventually involved family members of the patient in the ambulance. Trooper Martin has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.

Martin maintains that he had every right to pull the ambulance over for the driver's earlier refusal to yield and adds that the driver made an obscene hand gesture as he passed.

This guy needs to lose his job and perhaps face charges for endangerment of the patient who was being transported. Any word on if the patient survived?

If the ambulance was going without lights and sirens, the driver should have been driving like any other driver, obeying all stops and speed limits.

90% of my patients don’t really need an ambulance. In NJ, a paramedic’s presence means things are more serious, don’t know about OK. But even here a paramedic doesn’t mean the patient is dying, or that we’re going lights and sirens.

Not quite right. The ambulance had to go past a car that was already pulled over on the right shoulder. A few seconds after that, you see his brake lights go on and he begins to pull over. The trooper swings past him at that point.

That should have been the end of it. If he simply had to cite the ambulance driver, he should have followed him to the hospital, let them get the patient turned over, and then ticketed the driver. Jerk.

Because of the delay, the only one that can save the patient now is....him.

Jerk

Agreed.

Completely inappropriate behavior on the part of the trooper.

Yep. It wasn't as if the ambulance was going to runaway. BTW ambulances and Patrol Cars have an amazing device it's called a radio. The cop can call his dispatcher and have his dispatcher to ask what the ambulance is doing. This way he would know it the ambulance was on a run. In my state ambulance usually run 10-15 mph over the speed limit due to the need for quick turn arounds. Even faster if traffic allows. Also many Paramedics know to run lights and siren can upset their patient. They save the lights and siren for closer in or if the patients condition worsens.

But usually some of the fastest drivers I see are cops going to roll call from their home in their cruisers. Lights and siren off of course.

No...the “man” felt DIS-respective...you MUST respect the badge, and since that respect MUST be automatic, the “officer” KNOWS that you will automatically kiss his a** in any situation as he does whatever he pleases.

Look..I respect cops...but every single one I know has at least a little of this attitude. I work in EMS, and while I;ve never had a confrontation like this, I’ve had the “You MUST show respect” thing thrown at me many times..occasionally from the local guys, often from the staties.

Does any one work anymore? Wonder why she is being transported to the hospital, the whole family is obese. The trooper should be terminated.
