Who the hell would have thought the Republican Guards would have dissent from within their own ranks? Certainly not me, at least none that would have been made public.
Yes, it’s huge if it’s true. And the regime probably has an even bigger problem with the Iranian Army which is not as ideologically driven.
This is huge. If the Republican Guards are defecting, it could be all over for the regime.

I read an article that described how about 5 years ago the Revolutionary Guards’ purpose was converted from an elite military unit that fought Iraq to domestic security, even merging with the Basij.
I bet some didn’t like that.
Maybe these 16 guys didn’t want to be shooting their relatives and friends. It was speculated earlier today by some FReepers that even thought the Basij(sp?)were made out of fanatics, they are basically civilians and the army and Republican Guards might not join them in shooting citizens. Seems as if those FReepers may have been correct, at least partially.
We don’t know if this is true or not. It could be a complete ruse to discourage real dissenters. I.e. pretenting that these guards were in protest of the gov’t when they weren’t..
Of course there is no free press to find the truth out.
IF these people actually were accomplices they will be strung up in public.
I already heard this yesterday, not the arrests, but that the guard said it won’t fight Iranians.....................
