The worst result would be if he made all of us act as he does. Then we would have no complaint with his gutter talk.

Meh. For eight years, George W. Bush was savaged by his critics and treated them with nothing but respect, dignity and decorum.

Somehow, from that, the angry left inferred that they should be able to say anything they want about anyone to the right of Karl Marx, and that there should be no consequence for doing this whatsoever.

We can see from the 2008 election results how well the strategy of "just be nice to the left and they'll respect you" went. The party nominee spent half of his time in the debates praising Democrats and apologizing for being a Republican.

Meanwhile, a couple of generations of voters, who get much of their news from late night talk show hosts, have some sort of impression that conservatives are bigoted, oppressive, sexually-repressed, mean-spirited racists.

Where they get this idea is anyone's guess, but it could be that nobody raised much of a fuss over the last 10,000 "conservatives are bigoted, oppressive, sexually-repressed, mean-spirited racists" jokes spewed forth on national TV.

The angry left certainly never bothers itself with the notion that they might be beating a dead horse or overplaying their hand. I think we need to revisit that policy ourselves.

You are right. But - I don’t feel it does anything if we act the same as they acted when we complained about how they acted.

If you complain because Dave wants in a room with muddy feet and to teach him how it feels for someone to come in with muddy feet, you stomp in the mud and walk into his house with muddy feet, what do you say then? “There - huh?”

He looks and sees that you are just the same as him standing in a room with muddy feet - so you have nothing to talk about. How can you chastise him for his behavior - when your feet are muddy too?

Better to have the whole room turn to see that only Dave was rude enough, impolite enough, and crude and publicly unacceptable enough to draw criticism.

Right we stand up and fight and we quit ever worrying about our actions causing the “left” to say this, the “left” will do that.

And we all stand together against the one doing the unacceptable as we have done here.

You are right Bush did not get into fights to protect himself - probably because he felt the position of President was not to be involved in petty bickering but involved in honoring the office and doing the work of President.

His staff, his party members and us - should have done that part of the battle for him. After all - he was busy with two wars trying to protect our families.

But, we did not. Instead we joined the left in destroying the man - so he stood alone.
