06.15.09: Pittsburgh Officials Prepare for 350,000 fans at Penguins' Victory Parade
The City of Champions has gone Cup crazy. As Pittsburghers basked in the glow of a second pro sports championship in four months, the Stanley Cup toured PNC Park on Sunday, Sidney Crosby talked about the excitement of a two-title town and people crammed hotels in advance of today's celebration parade Downtown. "It's been an amazing couple of days," Penguins winger Bill Guerin said after throwing out the first pitch at yesterday's Pirates game. "This city is just crazy about it right now. It's awesome. Pittsburgh's such a huge sports town. The fans ... incredible. It's been wild." The Penguins' Stanley Cup victory parade starts at noon today and will take the same route the Steelers did in February after they won their sixth Super Bowl title. It will proceed through Grant Street, loop to the Boulevard of the Allies and end at Stanwix Street. Several Downtown streets will be closed. Pittsburgh officials are planning for the parade to draw as many as 350,000 people, the number who turned out for the Super Bowl victory parade, said Joanna Doven, a spokeswoman for Mayor Luke Ravenstahl.

Congratulations Pittsburgh Penguins
You Earned It!

"For over a thousand years Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of triumph, a tumultuous parade. In the procession came trumpeteers, musicians and strange animals from conquered territories, together with carts laden with treasure and captured armaments. The conquerors rode in a trimphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him. Sometimes his children robed in white stood with him in the chariot or rode the trace horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror holding a golden crown and whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting.” - General George S. Patton Jr.

Geez, dude! You’re still on that? It’s a new day, let it go! I’m sorry you can’t agree to disagree on this one subject, but that is not my fault.

I tried to find common ground with you by agreeing that the Pens won fair and square. I do not argue about the officiating, or that the Wings were “tired” or “off”. I must assume from your statements that common ground is not something you wish to find in others.

The Pens won. Get over it and move on. So two people on this thread are not sure Malkin belongs in the NHL after starting a fight with an opposing player after the game was over. And all you can say is that the stats say he does belong. Then when I point out that Bobby Clarke had good stats, too, I get accused of “changing the subject” or that Malkin and Clarke can’t be compared. Talk about not listening or being all over the place . . .

Why is it such a big matter to you? You think Malkin belongs in the NHL. Say it and move on (I have – or am trying to).

I made a statement (agreed to by another poster) that I wasn’t sure if Malkin belonged in the NHL, and you and others twisted it into me saying flat out that he doesn’t.

You said to be a man and admit I’m wrong. Then you say that it’s funny that I’ve fled from my original statement (to which I must say a big “Huh?” And still, I’m the one “all over the place”).

So you and some others here think I’m wrong about one player in the NHL. Is there not a player who you think that might not belong in the league they currently play in? So what? Although one person thinks that anyone who thinks Malkin might not belong is dumber than Obama’s policy-making. Since hockey is just a game and won’t change world peace, I consider his statement pretty dumb myself.

You and I are now at the point where we are really only just reiterating what we’ve said before. This means we’ve reached that point where we must agree to disagree on this subject, or never post to each other again.

You, razorboy, carry a good argument, marshal your facts and make your points quite well. Me, I’m still learning how to. So maybe I can’t argue as eloquently as you and sometimes it seems “nonsensical”. Instead of bashing someone for it (like you did me), just say “that didn’t make sense – please explain yourself better”.

You know, the strange thing is that both of us being on FR probably means we agree on more things than two random strangers would. I’m willing to agree to disagree on the Malkin subject. Are you? Do you completely agree with your wife? I know that after 17 years, that it’s impossible to agree on everything, but agreeing to disagree on some issues makes for a more enjoyable life for us. I think she’s wrong, she thinks I’m wrong, but we don’t let it get in the way of “us”.
And then we drop it and she handles it her way and I handle it mine. Someday we may come around to each others point of view (like Suze Orman – UGH!), but for now, she does her thing on that “subject”, and I do mine.

I’m not going to keep repeating myself on this thread, nor try to come up with new “points” to argue, so I’m done on this thread. I have better things to do than argue with walls. The deck needs painting and I have almost two acres to mow before it rains (again).

Enjoy.

That sure was a lot of typing just to ignore the presented facts and say you’re done. It really is a simple question that should be answerable in under 2 column inches and would repeat anything you’ve said. How can a guy with 3 career game misconducts, no career fighting majors, no career suspensions, and no penalties at all in over half his 291 games played be an immature 70s era Flyers type of player?

As for all of your other blathering, 90% of that doesn’t even apply to our conversation.

350,000 expected?

Pfft! Detroit had 1.2 million show up at last year’s event - and that’s in a city that’s half-abandoned.

Now Bettman and Crosby can have their New York date night - just like the Obamas. How romantic it will be. Sidney, don’t forget to wear protection.

Sorry we can’t agree to disagree, but like I said, that’s not my fault.

Actually it is your fault. You’re the guy who won’t answer a simple question: how is it a guy with Malkin’s PIM stats makes you think he shouldn’t be in the NHL due to immaturity and thuglike behavior? It’s a simple question, if you actually made ANY attempt to actually answer it we could agree to disagree. But by refusing to even try you’re showing your original statement was just feces thrown at the wall and now that it’s not sticking you can’t admit it.

It's obvious you and PAmom are just a little too partisan to look at hockey games objectively when it concerns your team.

I owe the both of you an apology for the above statement.
I'm sorry. It was over the top.

After attempting to rationally discuss the Stanley Cup Finals with other members of this forum, I have concluded I was wrong when I wrote that statement, although it was more than half tongue-in-cheek. It should not have directed it at either of you.

Congrats and enjoy the Pens win!

Don’t sweat it, no apology needed. These pigsburgers are just beginning to get a clue of what hockey’s all about. They barely won. It was far from a decisive victory by a few noobie NBA style superstars who happened to luck out this year after a poor regular season record..

What else do the majority of Detoilet residents have to do with their time in that highly illiterate, poverty ridden, crime ridden, unemployment ridden, organized crime controlled, and majority democrats hellhole. The Democrats and ACORN probably had booths everywhere illegally signing up voters and passing out free bottles of winos' favorite rock gut wines.

Yes, I agree. I did get over the top attempting to get my point understood, then realized it wasn't going to happen and asked to agree to disagree.
But, I did need to apologize to PA Mom and Engineer as I thought they might think my "you're too partisan" statement was for real. You'd have to read all that post to get the whole gist of what I meant.

Thanks jeffc...that was nice...

You didn’t have to apologize...but thank you for taking the time to clear the air (that doesn’t happen too often).

From what I've heard so far, all of the other hockey players are saying that Zetterberg and the rest should stop crying about Crosby not shaking his hand after game 7.

If they're looking for a reason to cry, how about blowing a 2-0 and 3-2 lead in games.

It seemed to me that Detroit was so used to winning that they didn't think it possible that they might lose. Pittsburgh was hungry for it.
