Kim Jong Il chose his youngest son Kim Jong Un to take over the Family Business of North Korea. Apparently Kim Jong Fredo will be sent to Cuba. Kim Jong Il runs the ICBM sweatshop, while the Castro brothers run the cigar & sugar cane plantation.

Legally it is perhaps correct to say that "Kim Jong-un, the alleged heir designate, tried to kill Kim Jong-nam", but I do not think that he made this decision himself.
It was the Steward of Gondor, sorry, North Korea Jang Sung-taek, that has anointed young puppet Kim Jong-un to be his prisoner that made the decision. If that is correct then the power struggle is over inside NK, and the Chinese protegé lost.

Fight has just begun. For now, Jang and Jong-un are inside and driving their agenda. However, when the purge picks up pace in N. Korea, Kim Jong-nam would have an opportunity. He will have new allies inside.
It will be messy, and it will play out for some time. Being on top now does not mean that Jang and Jong-un won. Besides, who knows what Jang will do after Chia's death?

The PRC is protecting him because if there is a very bloody succession struggle, Chinese protection would make this guy feel some debt to the PRC.
So the Chinese think they’d later have a small chance of dropping and pasting him in there after some of the smoke clears; the name would give his rule some legitimacy and continuity.
Then essentially the PRC would run the show by proxy, more tightly than they do now.

Power struggle.
I understand the General O and Lee (Yi) are behind Kim Jong Un, and I thought for one time there that Jang is behind Kim Yong Nam.

Kim Jong Un has to somehow have both Kim Jong Chol and Kim Jong Nam killed in this power struggle to replace Chia Pet.
I wonder when and if the horrid father himself will put out the official command with his own seal that his own flesh and blood, his first and second sons, but assassinated. You cannot make this stuff up. If the NIS and CIA were smart they would start to drive the wedges and drive them good and deep and knock DPRK off its center of balance.

Right. Kim Jong-nam will be their puppet as his grand daddy Kim Il-sung was for Stalin's.

Somehow I suspect that Gore and Carter will screw up that plan, even if it exists.
