Ironically, it was the incompetence of an Irish Officer, Lt Col Thomas Mullins of the 2nd (Irish) Battalion 44th regiment of foot who was probably chiefly responsible for British failure at New Orleans, because he failed to ensure the assaulting troops were adequately supplied with ropes and ladders....
He was cashiered in disgrace at the end of the war...
