If Sarah Palin wants to use David Lettermans poor taste joke about her daughter getting knocked up by a New York Yankee to alter the cultural discord involving young women, that would be fine.
In fact, it could be extraordinary.
Palin spent the better part of three days demanding that Letterman apologize for contributing to the kind of threat that is throughout our culture that makes it sound like it is OK to talk about young girls in a way, where its kind of OK, accepted and funny to talk about statutory rape, she told NBCs Matt Lauer.
Letterman, in an apology Palin felt was too weak, said he in no way endorsed or encouraged statutory rape. I dont believe he did either. There is nothing in his three-decade history to link him to such an endorsement. But he did pick on an 18-year-old girl.
Hes not the only one.
Letterman, however, doesnt have that kind of influence on young women. Hes not cool enough.
Not as cool as, say, T.I., who tells girls:
Yeah, I wantcho body, I need yo body
Long as you got me you wont need nobody
You want it I got it, go, get it, I buy it
Tell em other broke n***** be quiet. Or, maybe, Flo Rida, whose song, Right Round, is near the top of the charts:
From the top of the pole I watch her go (down)
She got me throwin my money a(round)
Aint nothin more beautiful to be (found)
Its goin down down.
Young girls not only dig this song, it may even be their ringtone. At the very least, its in their iPod.
Palins popularity and ability to garner the media spotlight could catapult her into a wonderful role as mother fed up with all avenues affecting our daughters. Much like Bristols decision to transform her situation as an unwed mother into a campaign for abstinence, her mother could become a vehement opponent to whats thrown at and weve unwittingly purchased for our daughters.
Young girls are bombarded by sexually charged images and lyrics from every aspect of entertainment and advertising. The magazines they read, the movies they watch, the TV shows they download.
Letterman is so far removed from their lives, he might as well be an 8-track tape player.
What in the world is that?!
I believe that’s Drew Barrymore back during her crack days flashing Letterman.

Yep, that's what it is. Here's a link to the Youtube video-if you've got absolutely nothing else to do.

“Letterman is so far removed from their lives, he might as well be an 8-track tape player.”
I guess having a cavlier, even jovial attitude about sexual exploitation of young girls is just A-okay so long as you’re not directly threatening. This always make me think about Colin Ray’s song, “I Think About You” and my own daughter who is now grown up and happily married to a great guy. “...eight years old, big blue eyes and a heart of gold, when I look at this world, I think about you.”
Letterman makes me sick and extremely angry.
Was that when the old bastard had his heart attack?
Except that the daughter at the baseball game was not 18. She was 14. The author of this article is either ignorant or lying.
That is patently false. The guy has been a slimey creep for at least 15 of the last 30 years.
A couple of press releases and a few minutes airtime during interviews?
Even if she really did spend the better part of three days protecting her innocent 14 year old daughter’s reputation, I would say it was time wisely spent.
Sarah’s a good mother.
Spent the better part of 3 days demanding an apology at that! In point of fact, she said clearly that he *doesn’t* have to apologize to her, but that he should apologize to young women across the country.
Like the President they elected, these buffoons can’t get anything right.
That has to be Iggy Pop. Or Andrea Mitchell.
