Lieberman Statement on Iran
The Weekly Standard ^ | 6/14/2009 | Joe Lieberman/Weekly Standard

Posted on 06/14/2009 10:09:12 AM PDT by Servant of the Cross

“Over the last six months, we have witnessed free and fair elections in Iraq and Lebanon, in which millions of people peacefully went to the polls, and in both cases, the Iranian-backed forces of extremism were decisively rejected at the ballot box.

“Unfortunately, on Friday, the Iranian people were denied this right, enjoyed by Iraqis and Lebanese and so many other peoples throughout the world, to determine the future of their country for themselves. Instead, through intimidation, violence, manipulation, and outright fraud, the Iranian regime has once again made a mockery of democracy, and confirmed its repressive and dictatorial character.

“We as Americans have a responsibility to stand in solidarity with people when they are denied their rights by repressive regimes. When elections are stolen, our government should protest. When peaceful demonstrators are beaten and silenced, we have a duty to raise our voices on their behalf. We must tell the Iranian people that we are on their side.

“For this reason, I would hope that President Obama and members of both parties in Congress will speak out, loudly and clearly, about what is happening in Iran right now, and unambiguously express their solidarity with the brave Iranians who went to the polls in the hope of change and who are now looking to the outside world for strength and support.”

How about this, Vice President Biden?

When the people of Iraq were denied these same rights, and when their brutal dictator thumbed his nose at the agreements he had signed, Geroge BUsh did more than talk. Now the people of Iraq are free to vote, and have done so as you point out, and now use as an example for good...no thanks to you and Obama.

Without George Bush's firm ACTION, and his and our brave troops dedication to the principles of freedom and the prpositions that you TALK about, the Iraqi people to this day would be suffering uunder a brutal dictator.

You and Obama and your ilk would have done precisely nothing...just as you are doing now.

” For this reason, I would hope that President Obama and members of both parties in Congress will speak out, loudly and clearly, about what is happening in Iran right now, ..”

Friday Obama was sooooo excited about the elections.
He was practically high fiving himself.
Obama can’t walk back his moronic remarks now.
His “ excitement “ about the “ robust debate “
“ obviously because of his Cairo speech.”
His teleprompter may have been taking a smoke break.
BTW-Has Obama blamed the crappy teleprompter
he inherited from George Bush for his always idiotic extemporaneous comments ?

“We are excited to see what appears to be a robust debate taking place in Iran and obviously, after the speech that I made in Cairo,
we tried to send a clear message that we think there’s a possibility of change.”

Zero’s administration needs to wake up. The Persians need help to bring down the mullahs. This is the perfect time for U.S. involvement.

Nonsense.

In Lebanon, the change in the number of parliament seats between the Hizzies and their major opponents was ONE, a ONE SEAT change. It was no great victory for the moderates, it was a victory for the status quo.

In Iran ALL the candidates for President were pre-screened by the Mullahs and each of the four that were allowed to run are part of the ruling group of Islamic religious-based “revolutionaries”. The one touted in the west as the big “moderate” was Prime Minister under the Ayatollah Khomeini.

Wow. Thanks Ernest.

And thank you Senator Lieberman.

The (rhetorical) question is, will Zero have his GWB moment?

Lieberman a Republican? Probably it’ll never happen. Today he said that O has done a “good job” so far in foreign policy in his five months in office. That kind of surprised me, considering he had worked against O in the last campaign. Seems like he’s trying to mend fences with his ‘Rat pack.
