As more and more gay couples are doing these days, Michael Galbreth and Jack Massing will don tuxes on Saturday and walk down a wedding aisle to say their vows.
But what will distinguish their marriage from ones happening in Iowa and most New England states isnt just the fact that it will have no legal standing in Texas, which confers none of the rights and responsibilities of marriage to same-sex couples, even if theyve been together as long as Galbreth and Massing, who celebrated their 25th anniversary last year.
Or the likelihood that their wives will attend the ceremony in the Lillie and Hugh Roy Cullen Sculpture Garden of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Its the fact that their wedding isnt to each other. Its to a live oak sapling.

Performance art today, a constitutional right tomorrow.
Good morning. Is there a message in this somewhere?
I can’t WAIT until some PETA freak marries a dead salmon after rescuing it from Pike Place Market!
“it’s a real wedding, as real as possible.”
Gives a whole new meaning to real. Unreal is real, depends on what the meaning of real is.
But they have a (to them unwitting) point: their marriage “is real,” they insist, because otherwise something of the “performance art” would be sacrificed. Which means that nothing is real and everything is real. Performance is as real, to them, as anything else is real. So “gay marriage”—undertaken by those who really do mean it to be real (who are campaigning for mainstreaming of homosexual life and are dead serious about it)—is an act, a real performance, really real.
Now I happen to agree with the idea that life is performance, performance of duty, conforming to God’s expectations etc. But as long as one has to distinguish between “performance” and something else called “reality,” then “gay marriage” being a performance is not really real, just as these Art Guys realize that their performance marriage is different from the “real” marriages that gay activists think they are carrying out.
I’m with the Art Guys on this one—all “gay marriages” are MERELY performances and not Performances in the Real Sense that the life of a God-fearing person ought to be a Performance of Truth.
But somehow I have a sneaking suspicion that neither the Art Guys nor the gung ho gay activists are going to like what I just wrote.
Oh well, can’t convince everyone all the time.
Um, ok.
“who celebrated their 25th anniversary last year”
Uh, huh. The important thing would be to know how many times each of them has committed sodomy with a third party during that time, and how many of those third parties were under age.
Think that wouldn’t be important? I’ll be the numbers would make blood shoot out of your eyes, to steal a phrase.
The show for all of yew who wood watch Deadwood.
"For their big fat not-so-gay wedding, the Art Guys are playing it straight. The vows and format will be as traditional as possible." (the author of the article)
I guess I should distinguish between what the article author said and what the Art Guys believe. Except that I kinda sorta think that Galbreth's quotation was made with tongue a tad in cheek.
Damn pedaphiles! That tree can’t be older than 1 or 2 years of age!

Read the article again... They're married all right... But not to each other: To wives. The article wasn't sure if the wives would be attending "the wedding."

Thanks.....I was soooo into the cribbage boards upstairs in the Athenian long ago that I never noticed, LOL
“They’re married all right... But not to each other: To wives.”
Guess I overlooked that.
It seems to me, though, that the article tried to create the impression that these two sodomites were trying to claim a 25th anniversary for themselves.
LOL - Thanks for posting this!
When I was young and had no sense, . . .
True performance art would be to chain these jokers to each other and to a sheep. After a couple of weeks their comments would be a great source of yocks.
And you know that these two are "sodomites" how?????
Of course, if they're "artists" I suppose that should be enough for you, right? This is in Texas. Of course, there isn't any possibility that they're just trying to show how stupid the whole comcept of "same sex marriage" is, as well as how it could open the possibilities to "real" marriages between multiple partners, and possibly even legitimizing interspecies "relationships" - IIRC, that whack-job professor, Peter Singer of Princeton University doesn't see any reason not to allow interspecies "romance."
