There are potential parallels here between today’s Iran and the Romania of 20 years ago, when the Army sided with the people against the Securitate.
Or when during the failed coup attempt in the former Soviet Union when Boris Yeltsin stood on the tank, and the Red Army turned against the coup plotters, and effectively ended the Soviet Union.
