The Acting Prosecutor for the DOJ Sacramento office engages in political life among the various Prosecutors in California.
He's their Gumbah.
I suspect he (Mr. Brown) got upset with Walpin going after his target Before he'd cleared things with Mr. Brown.
So, why would Brown be upset? Well, for one thing, he could have used the knowledge of what a major Obama donor was up to in "negotiations" for resources for the Sacramento office, and maybe even for a promotion for himself. Walpin definitely tossed that under the bus.
So why would Walpin undercut Brown? That's an easy one ~ because he thinks of Brown as little more than a buttkisser in the ranks of the professional prosecutors in the Eastern District of California.
Believe it or not this is a Republican on Republican event. At the same time Obama's crowd has decided to take advantage of it and get their own guy in there. It's too late for them to help the major donor since the guilty party has agreed to pay back all the money they took and has paid back half of it already.
The amount due is just under the sum DOJ sets as the amount they'll prosecute in court.
So, the deal is, the perps paid back enough to avoid prosecution, which satisfies DOJ prosecutors.
It's not like the prosecutor got a cut.
