What, pray tell, are the Canadians going to do if this passes? The only thing holding up Canada’s health care system now is the ability of their citizens to come south and pay cash for immediate care. Absent that, they will be as screwed as we would be. FUBO.
Not just that.
We susidize Canada (and the world’s) drug costs.
...................
There are two main reasons. First, when drug companies look at the world they see essentially one free marketAmerica. Here they can set prices at levels that aim at maximizing profits. In the rest of the world, companies tell us, socialized medical systems set prices: “monopsony” buyers make take-it-or-leave-it offers. Because a company’s marginal cost for the second pill is so low, as noted earlier, it can accept those offers and still come out ahead. But it can do so only because it has Americahalf the world marketto fall back on. In effect, the rest of the world rides freeor at least at well below costwhile American citizens pick up the tab for drug R&D. And that, too, is driving this debate.

The same thing they do now. Wait for care and hope their problems don't get worse.
My daughter-in-law is Canadian. She has a younger sister (age 30) who went to her GP for lumps in her breasts. He referred her to a specialist. Six months later, she still has not been able to get in to see the specialist. Hopefully, it's not cancer. But if it is, she is not likely to be around long to soak up all that free health care. Now that's cost containment you can believe in!
But, Hey! It's free, right?
