I discussed this with one of my sons when he was about 4^th or 5^th grade. He wanted to know if he would get in trouble for fighting at school. I told him that I didn't want him fighting at school. But I also told him not to stand there and let someone slap him around. I told him if someone tried that, to kick his ass. I asked him if he understood and he did.

True enough. I’ll have the same conversation with my son when he reaches that age. Don’t start fights, but certainly finish them.

Secondly, I have no objection to Sarah Palin’s reaction to this. She is right to stand up for herself, particularly regarding the comment about her daughter. If she’s crushed by the slutty flight attendant thing ... eh. It sucks, but such is a consequence of being a public figure. There have been a plethora of jokes about Hillary Clinton’s appearance, and I’ve not seen many objections from the right.

My objection here is to the public over-reaction.
