Supporters of Ahmadinejad, Mousavi clash in Tehran

Hundreds of supporters of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and moderate challenger Mirhossein Mousavi clashed in Tehran on Saturday after a landslide victory for Mr. Ahmadinejad in a presidential election, a Reuters witness said.

Police using batons moved to disperse the demonstrators who were staging a sit-in to protest against Mr. Ahmadinejad's victory. They were chasing and arresting some of the protesters.

The witness saw two men being carried away from the scene at Vanak square in the Iranian capital. Some people were having fistfights.

The violence broke out as Iran's Interior Minister announced that Mr. Ahmadinejad had won Friday's election, gaining 62.6 per cent of the vote in an election which Mr. Mousavi has criticized for violations.

Up to 2,000 Mousavi supporters then staged a sit-in in the middle of the road, clapping hands and chanting: “Mousavi take back our vote What happened to our vote?”. They also chanted at security forces: “Police, brother, you're one of us“.

Dozens of riot police were standing nearby.

Another great foreign policy triumph for the Obama administration! One speech promising appeasement and the ayatollahs rig the election to give Ahmedinejad a landslide.

And they rigged it in such a way as to put Obama's ACORN thugs to shame.

Net result: Iran will keep thumbing its nose at the world while it builds its nukes and points them at Israel.

Some people were having fistfights.

That's the problem if you have no 2nd Amendment.

“Brian Williams will have some crow for breakfast this morning.”

Why? Was he predicting Ahmadinejad would lose?

Hmmm. I think I’m rooting for injuries. Mainly, though, I have thought that our interests are best served by the probability that the challenger received the most votes, but the result showed a landslide the other way; ergo, it is a bogus result; ergo, there will be an internal uprising in Iran; ergo, Iran will be too busy to cause a lot of trouble for the time being.
Alternatively, it may have the opposite effect, panicking the incumbents to stage a crisis with Israel or the United States, or both, you know — their dual bogey-man — in order to deflect from the internal crisis and get everyone pulling together the way Castro, Ortega, and Chavez have always done.
In any event, this election helps bring some matters to a head, and that, I think, is good.

They also chanted at security forces: “Police, brother, you're one of us“.

LOL!! Two Islamist candidates sending out their minions to kill each other. One believes that their election would have changed the Islamist institutions while the other beats the tar out of it. Let's all hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

He predicted a new era in Iran, based on Bambi’s Cairo speech.

Lol. Well it will be: a nuclear era - if Israel doesn’t attack, which I believe she will within the next few months

Actually, I’m quite glad that Ahmadinejad won...

I would rather have him as a spokesman for the Iranian regime than any other (and so-called) moderate. I would rather have Admadinejad spouting off how he’s going to eliminate Israel and how the U.S. is the Great Satan, than having some double-talking weenie be their spokesman...

:-)

When hope-and-change meets thuggery, the result is predictable. Unless one’s a lib.
